Trista Reynolds said that although police haven’t confirmed it, she is not a suspect. She said part of the reason for that is that police have told her things about the investigation.
Ayla’s mother, Trista Reynolds, said a state police detective told her that items collected on May 8 are not related to the case, but wasn’t told what they are.
Earlier this month, Reynolds was told that investigators planned to show her photographs of those items, but that hasn’t happened yet, she said. “I don’t know when I will be seeing what was found,” she said.
Trista Reynolds said it's rare that she gets updates from police these days, but she continues to hope that there will be a tip that helps police crack the case.
Uh oh...is the tide changing, Trista? Police, who you are now frustrated with, are no longer sharing information with you. You set the bar; you were not a suspect, because police were telling you things about the investigation. Now, that has changed, so can we safely assume that you ARE a suspect?
Also, for the people who don't want to focus on Trista, can you logically explain this:
McCausland, who is the only law enforcement official making public statements about the case, has said that no one, including Trista Reynolds, has been ruled out as a suspect in Ayla’s disappearance.
Now, it's true that police have said an abduction did not occur. They have effectively ruled out that situation. BUT ruling out that situation also rules out Trista as a suspect, yet police have refused to do that. Explain, logically, how there was no kidnapping and Trista continues to be a suspect? What would it hurt to rule out Trista, if police have already ruled out an abduction scenario? The two are mutually exclusive. Trista cannot be a suspect if an abduction did not occur. Also, McCausland came right out and said Trista's claim about not being a suspect was FALSE. A lie. That's at least one occasion where he called her out on her bullshit.
Things are not always as they seem. Trista, do the right thing.
Of course Trista is a suspect.
ReplyDeleteIt isn't considered an abduction if a parent takes their own child, which explains why police are saying an abduction didn't take place and why Trista hasn't been ruled out as a suspect. I really hope Trista does do the right thing!
ReplyDeleteActually, the terms used are, "parental abduction", or non-custodial abduction..... Nice try though!
DeleteThank you Obscure.
ReplyDeleteyes it is still called an abduction,Look up missing children taken by another parent,it says abduction.Or kidnapping.I have seen it listed under both.
ReplyDelete" Explain, logically, how there was no kidnapping and Trista continues to be a suspect?" While I don't think there's even a remote chance Trista was involved, logically there are ways she could have Ayla without an abduction. One is mentioned immediately above. Another is collusion with Justin. While there may be some limited value in laying out these possibilities, no one should overlook the obvious- an apparent escalating pattern of abuse of Ayla in Justin's care, a suspicious LIP purchased almost immediately upon taking her from her mother, a suspicious "disappearance," and Ayla's blood at his bedside.
ReplyDeleteOkay, I'm going to TRY and say this as delicately & nicely as possible. The life insurance policy is NOT a sign of anything. He cannot cash in on a LIP if he murders his child, if his child is missing, if his child dies under any type of suspicious circumstance, let alone if he's involved... need I go on? Is it getting through yet?
DeleteIf he was trying to cash in on a policy, he would've made her death look like an accident. Can you please get off that now? Seriously? And can we stop thinking that $25,000 is a crapload of cash? Because it isn't. It's the LOWEST AMOUNT POSSIBLE to buy for a permanent policy through State Farm.
Glad I could clear that up. Now please let it sink in good so we don't hear about it ever again. Thank you.
You will hear about it Michelle, because it may be relevant in any number of scenarios. You don't like the premed murder scenario? He could have intended to make a death look like an accident and screwed up, ergo the broken arm. But if you can't handle that possibility, consider the money laundering scenario that would have tied Ayla into drug connections. You 've got a guy with a reputation for drug activity and minor selling apparently, though I have no idea if the reputation is deserved, he decides to take a truck driving class and buy an LIP, two things that can be associated with drug trade - and the truck driving plans apparently collapse after the scrutiny over Ayla. it would be ignorant not to at least think through these possibilities and weigh them against the evidence.
DeleteSomeone please help me out here. Wasn't the driving course for class B CDL with school bus endorsement? TIA
DeleteDriving plans collapse "after" scrutiny of Ayla. Justin was in the process of bettering himself. And FYI he still is. His plans have not collapsed he is still moving forward. Still working currently and working towards completing his driving school tests. What is Trista doing for herself to support herself and her children to make herself a "better" mom.
DeleteAnswers, I suggest that you call Trista and ask her those questions. Dang it, better yet why don't you call the Maine State Police and tell them that you are convinced that Trista abducted Ayla because she wasn't doing anything "to support herself and her children to make herself a 'better' mom." Wow, you are just an amazing armchair detective!
DeleteTook me a while, but I think I can answer my own question. I found a brochure for Mid-Maine Regional Adult Community Education for Fall 2011. The only course offered in Fairfield at Lawrence Adult Education was in fact a Class B CDL course with school bus endorsement. Now I have to ask why I keep reading theories about Justin taking a CDL class and cashing in on the LIP so that he could buy a semi and transport drugs across the country? He would need a Class A CDL to drive the big rigs.
DeleteNot really sure what your point is "more questions". Justin was enrolled at that school LE knows what courses he took and when. I am sure he has a career path in mind. As do other people who take the same course. And they all probably do not enroll for the purpose of transporting drugs. So the course must be offered for some purpose.
Delete@Anonymous
DeleteI am convinced, your are correct that Trista and her family are involved in the abduction of Ayla. But it is hardly because of the facts that you state above. Her actions before and after Ayla's disappearance are what lead me to believe that she is involved. Her lies. Her inconsistencies in her stories. Those are just a few of the things that have lead me to my conclusions. Unlike others in this case I do not make my judgments based on such shallow facts.
@Anonymous
DeleteMaybe people are convinced because there have been tips that Trista was seen with Ayla after she disappeared.
ANSWERS .. Trista is being a Mom right now, that's enough, she does not need to be out working and not making enough to pay child care all alone. She is keeping little Ray in her arms and grieving for her baby daughter being missing.
Deletejustin is bettering himself? Great, and is he bettering himself as a parent too. Paying child support for his son? Searching for Ayla? Sounds like he is going on with his life as before, a single guy.
Anonymous-my point was that the idea of Justin getting his CDL and cashing in on the LIP to purchase a semi truck is not only ridiculous, but has ZERO basis in fact.
Delete@Man up
DeleteJustin is paying child support for his daughter. Yes absolutely searching for Ayla make no mistake about that. And many parents manage to work, go to school while still being a parent and pay for child care. She is after all still getting child support and state aid. And Justin is not at all "going on with life as before" unlike Trista. Who has been seen out in public at social functions, parties and just about town with her new boyfriend laughing and smiling and horsing around. Justin does not feel up to those things.
@ more questions - I appreciate your research. I agree.
DeleteThank you More questions.
DeleteI'm sure there are many good opportunities locally available for someone with a class B CDL. Allowing Justin to find a decent job where he could be home daily to care for Ayla.
Absolutely, S. There are any number of good paying jobs that one could get with a class B CDL, almost all of them local. I'm just miffed at the people who heard "CDL" and made an automatic leap to drug trafficking or, a little less nefariously, that Justin planned to hit the open road in his big rig and leave Ayla behind.
DeleteLE have not stated there was abuse, DHHS have not stated there was abuse, doctors have not reported abuse. The only "escalating pattern of abuse of Ayla claims" come from one source. An as of now not so reliable source. The LIP was not ruled suspicious by LE and is in fact not being further investigated, the only blood that is known to be Ayla's is 4 drops very likely due to a small cut on her foot weeks prior. And so we are down to the suspicious disappearance. Who had motive for that? An angry parent? One who has shown anger. One who has shown spite. One who has shown they went to court and may have gotten answers they did not like under their current state? One who has said they did not want to share the child in the first place? One who is unstable? One who's family has stated from the beginning they did not want this child's father involved and tried to get the said father to sign off rights? One who is very swayed by that family. Need I go on?
ReplyDeleteas doctor did report it to DHS/ it's in the medical records/ Trista also reported it to DHS long before the alleged kidnapping
DeleteWrong!! DHS would have come after Justin. They did not. There was absolutely no follow up. That does not happen with DHHS. If they get a report they have to follow up. They DID NOT. Also there is no report by a doctor where the doctor states there was concern of abuse. None.
DeleteI work at MAINE MED Radiology in the ER and also at various sites. and can tell you after reading the report that there is a protocol that is followed and there are fractures that are considered a red-flag or marker of abuse that would initiate that protocol. After looking at the report online I can say that it would be a report that initiated that protocol and would require furtur action as was recommended by what I read in the report. DHHS would not nessecarily come after Justin, right away. Has to do with biology and the nature of how injury manifests in the skeletal tissue of a child. Most likely why follow-ups were scheduled. The report may not say "concern for abuse" the stated frature type - indicates that there would be concern for abuse in a child of this age and size and the stage of skeletal development.

You are absolutely correct. Besides, child protection agencies, such as DHHS, have a reputation for letting child neglect and abuse cases fall through the cracks. It would not shock me in the least if someone within DHHS dropped the ball.
Anonymous you are full of BS. That is simply incorrect. if abuse is suspect it is state mandated for doctors or any medical professionals to report it. It would be a breech of ethics to do otherwise. End of story. It did not say in the medical records that there was concern of abuse, it would have stated that plain and simple. It did not. And Justin was never reported. Ask LE. They know.
DeletePolice stated that the broken arm was an accident look it up. Three doctors saw Ayla not one reported it. Not one.
DeleteLEknows:
DeleteI have nothing to prove to you or anybody. I came to offer my professional perspective. I am sorry but you have a very limited perspective on "what is mandated" a very simplistic, narrow, and juvenille perspective. Equally a breech of ethics to make erroroneous and unsubstantiated claim. It could be a potential call for malpractice call for malpractice. There is a very fine line that Dr.'s walk, that is why there is a protocol. As I stated the nature of the skeletal tissue of a child this age and size requires follow-up to validate claim and is connected to (like I said) the nature of this tissue and how it heals. A child this age's bone tissue is completely different than an adult even much different than a child just a few years older. I am not goint to go into the a&p bio as I worry you may fail to understand or the sciene would escape you. The fracture would have been a red flag, this is known. Would not need to be stated in report. If there had been no prior ER visits then it would require this follow up to make complete determination. I believe I read that the paternal parent failed to appear and did not make that follow-up appointment. I am sorry to say that your statement illustrates your lack of knowledge of how the state, medical field, Osha, Hippa, beurcratic system, insuranse and overall system works. I hate to say that all records are not linked to always verify any and all previous claims unless there had been a previous criminal history or previous visit to the same ER in the same data system. Hippa laws in some aspects has made this harder. I wished we lived in a world when, as a doctor, you see wrong doing and you know that something narfarious has occured and truely had the ability to be complete true the oath all doctors take. But the world is not that simple. Protocol, politics, profits, liability, etc. But you clearly are an individiual on the outside looking into a system that is beyond your knowledge. I wish I could be as jaded as you.
And Anon: 22.5.12 - the very fact that dr sent to specialist for children to a preofessional in the medical system understands this for this fracture was to validate "concern for abuse" The type of fracture this child sustained at this age is consistent with abuse. This type of fracture is not aquired from a fall or even a car accident.
Anon who works in radiology. Thank you for sharing your perspective. I have not seen the reports you indicated, and likely I wouldn't understand what they said unless it was in plain English. However, regarding "If there had been no prior ER visits then it would require this follow up to make complete determination. I believe I read that the paternal parent failed to appear and did not make that follow-up appointment." - Ayla was taken to 2 follow up appointments (11/14 and 11/21) with a bone specialist in Portland, the appointment that was missed was 12/16. Your statement has me wondering if the reports from those 2 visits are not available on line to view.
DeleteI am not familiar with protocol between doctors and DHHS taking so long. My son and his girlfriend lived with me after their baby was born. I was home sick from work one day when the baby was about 2 weeks old. The mom's doctors office called and said they wanted to schedule her follow up appointment and asked if she could come in that day. I said she didn't have transportation that day and that I'd ask her to call them to schedule an appointment. Thirty minutes later a caseworker from DHHS was knocking on the door. She said DHHS had reported the mom for not going to an appointment that day. None of us were involved with DHHS before or since. So, in my limited experience, I would be shocked if the doctor suspected abuse with a broken arm and DHHS was not waiting for them when they got home.
@Anonymous
DeleteNot only do you need back to "medical school" if indeed that is the "professional perspective you are talking about but you may want to think about revisiting Kindergarten as well. You are a nut case. It does not take a follow up visit to determine abuse. Any doctor, teacher, social worker, any persons working with children are state mandated to report abuse and they DO NOT require follow up visits. And I guarantee if the professional is an ethical person their first concern is not malpractice it is the welfare of the child!!! Who are you anyways that was ridiculous! And Ayla was sent to another doctor because the ER doctor was not a bone specialist nor was her pediatrician. That is standard procedure.
Anon. 22.5.12
DeleteI appreciate your professional perspective.
You are wrong though about this.
"If there had been no prior ER visits then it would require this follow up to make complete determination. I believe I read that the paternal parent failed to appear and did not make that follow-up appointment".
The paternal parent DID keep the follow up appointment with the specialist. BOTH parents were at 2 follow up appointments. There is also reports from those 2 visits, with the specialist, online. Neither report from the specialist suggest that this injury was from abuse, and not an accident.
"This type of fracture is not aquired from a fall or even a car accident".
One of the things I've learned in life is never to say something can't happen, because inevitably it will, nd I'd be proven wrong.
I'm sorry, but your professional perspective is not really "professional". If you see an ER doctor for a fractured bone, you will be sent to a doctor who is a specialist in this field. Just as ER doctors specialize in emergency medicine, Orthopaedic doctors specialize in bones. They will not give you a definitive diagnosis on the break, or tell you to go to your regular Dr., they will send you to an Orthopaedic Dr.! Anyway, my point being, Ayla was sent to an Orthopaedic Dr. because she had a broken are, not because abuse was suspected!!! Your statement, "This type of fracture is not aquired from a fall or even a car accident.", is not valid. You are not qualified to make a diagnosis, and rightly (luckily) so. Have a good day.

Maine Revised Statute Title 17-A, Chapter 13:
ReplyDeleteKIDNAPPING AND CRIMINAL RESTRAINT
17-A §303. CRIMINAL RESTRAINT BY PARENT
1. A person is guilty of criminal restraint by a parent if, being the parent of a child and knowing the
person has no legal right to do so, the person takes, retains or entices the child:
A. Who has not in fact attained 16 years of age, from the custody of the child's other parent, guardian
or other lawful custodian with the intent to remove the child from the State or to secrete the child and
hold the child in a place where the child is not likely to be found. Violation of this paragraph is a Class C
crime; [2007, c. 96, §7 (AMD).]
So what the above is saying is that when a parent in the state of Maine takes their own child it is not Kidnapping but Criminal Restraint. A class C crime instead.
DeleteNO, it is saying that criminal restraint by a parent is synonomous with kidnapping, meaning criminal restraint by a parent is considered kidnapping and therefore, if LE states that a kidnapping or abduction did not take place that foils the Trista took her in the night.
Deletethats not how I read that....its only considered kidnapping or criminal restraint IF the parent had no rights to the child...Trista did not lose custody of Ayla...she was to be returned to her, by Justin, according to DHHS...therefore, she had a right to take her child..
Delete"from the custody of the child's other parent, guardian
Deleteor other lawful custodian with the intent to remove the child from the State or to secrete the child and

above statment covers Anon 22.5.12
the child was in the physical custody of JD. Both parental had equal parent rights. But to take the child out of the custody from the other and to to criminal restraint (from other custodial parent or state) this is considered criminal restraint considered synonomouse with kidnapping
Exactly. Actually there was no custody agreement between either parent to be perfectly clear here. DHHS did not order Ayla to be taken from Trista nor to be given back to her. Neither parent had custody at that time. So both had every right to have her.
DeleteBoth had every right to have her....perhaps... but that doesnt mean you can walk into someones house in the middle of the night and take AYLA. Just putting your foot in the door brings you up on a few charges. Hell, they didnt even need to take AYLA to get Judge Judy to verbally smack 'em down...Youth,desperation, alcohol, drugs, stupidity and having no regard for the law...was involved in this. Street mentality was what acted it out. IMO
DeleteYou are absolutely right Selena but Trista may very well have "assumed" it was her right based on her set of morals if the door was indeed unlocked and she did have equal custody. She might have thought to herself I have every right to go in there and get her. So yes I think it could have been her own set of morals, her desperation, alcohol/drugs and stupidity that led to this.
DeleteThey can't exactly dismiss Trista as a suspect without pointing an even larger finger at Justin. I don't think they will clear anyone until they are sure of who is responsible for Ayla going missing. Also, you conveniently omitted the rest of the statement from McCausland.
ReplyDelete"has said that no one, including Trista Reynolds, has been ruled out as a suspect in Ayla’s disappearance. However, McCausland has said that investigators believe the three adults who were with Ayla on Dec.16 — Ayla’s father, Justin DiPietro; his sister, Elisha DiPietro; and his girlfriend, Courtney Roberts — know more about her disappearance than they have told police, including how Ayla’s blood wound up in the basement of the DiPietro home at 29 Violette Avenue."
So, MSP has very strong reasons to continuously say that those three know more than they are saying, but Trista is responsible? Why would those three hide the truth if it was Trista that took Ayla and they knew it?
anon, we've all heard (ad nauseam) that McCausland "believes" the three in the home know more than what they have said - and that a kidnapping "doesn't pass the straight-face test." (Which is such an unfortunate choice of language on his part... really? are officers breaking into smiles or giggles when the word is mentioned - because they so strongly believe she is deceased?)
DeleteI believe JSTL's point was many are saying "LE ruled out a kidnapping" which is not true... even if they smirk when it's mentioned. If LE had completely ruled out a kidnapping then they would also be able to say they had completely ruled out Trista as a suspect - but when they said they had ruled no one out, they specifically said "including Trista Reynolds."

MacCausland told a facebook commenter this week that LE is still searching for a LIVE Ayla.
A 'live' Ayla, means she WAS taken by someone, since obviously she could not have survived alone without care from an adult for almost 5 months.
A 'live' Ayla also refutes Trista's BS claim that a 'cup of blood' was found, as that amount would prove fatal for a toddler.
Anonymous, where did you see that ?
DeleteDefinition of abduction: the illegal carrying or enticing away of a person, especially by interfering with a relationship, as the taking of a child from its parent. Since Ayla is no longer with the person in defacto custody nor with any other person in her immediate family who will own up to having her, she has been abducted. There are two possibilities of no abduction one is that she was dead when removed from the house or Justin still has her in his care. Hmmm. I dont think either possibility has evidence to say conclusively that Ayla was not abducted. If there were then people would be in custody either as perpetrator or material witness.
ReplyDeleteOn the day of the missing baby report, Crews drove Lance to see Justin, he said, in a Facebook post referenced at Ayla Reynolds Was Not Kidnapped and Is Still Missing. He described Lance as distraught about the reported kidnapping. But a transformation took place by the next day when he picked Lance up, Crews said, the emotion gone.
ReplyDeleteCrews concluded from the experience, "…I was a friend of the family and I beleive someones guilty. The fact that They didnt want to go out and help me, along with many other, proves that they either know where to look or are in hope that it doesnt get uncoverd."
My understanding from what you said is that Lance was distraught when he heard Ayla went missing. A friend dropped him off at the house and the next day he seemed ok. So his friend assumed that someone during that time frame confided Ayla's death to Lance, so therefore Lance stopped worrying and was fine the next day?
DeleteIf I remember correctly, LE told the family, and those known to them, not to search due in part to the possibility that if any evidence was found it could be contaminated. So, for instance, let's say Crews found Ayla's sling. LE takes it in for examination and finds Crews' DNA on it, then he could potentially be a suspect. Also, I'm not sure how I would feel if Ayla was my family member, but if I felt I *knew* she was kidnapped and my long-time friend insisted on searching outside... there seem to be implications there. Besides my friend going against what LE advised, would I also feel they considered me a liar about something so important?
Couldnt have said it better.
Deletewhere did the post say anything about death??? i missed that part..i don't think Crews ever used the word 'death' in his statements...
Deletehe believes someone's "guilty" and he's outside looking for her... what was he referring to? guilty of... being mean? not paying their bills in a timely fashion? not being his friend anymore?
DeleteIf Lance was no longer distraught, wouldn't the logical conclusion be he believed Ayla is OK?
If Lance was no longer distraught, wouldn't the logical conclusion be he believed Ayla is OK?
DeleteYes!! I believe Justin knows where Ayla is based on the lance/crews falling out, the "not the right time" comments, the "lack of concern" Justin and co have regarding things like items found in river, etc.
I think they are hiding Ayla. Motive? Not sure yet, but I believe Heidi knows where Ayla is as well.
I've always thought Ayla is with Angela Harry.
That is the funniest theory so far. LE knows exactly where to find Angela Harry. If Justin, Heidi, Angela or Co knew where Ayla was she would be home. Trista where is Ayla??
DeleteCrews said his friendship with Lance ended the Monday after Ayla was reported missing. The reason was Lance telling him to stop looking for Ayla and his disregard of those instructions. The third member of the once trio of friends, Derick Inman, corroborated Crews' story
ReplyDeleteMaybe Lance didn't want folks doing big ground searches for a dead Ayla and getting the focus in the media on just a 'recovery' scenario, when the family was trying to get LE to focus on the abduction scenario--family or acquaintance abduction, which is what they apparently thought happened.
DeleteNow Crews couldn't have known all of that. I can see how he could have taken it the wrong way and felt hurt or confused or suspicious. But I do think that the whole family including Lance was trying to function in a state of shock, trauma and fear over their baby being missing. The friends and relatives were the unfortunate collateral damage of the baby snatching.
I did see where LE said nobody was ruled out as a suspect, but can someone post where he said Trista was a liar? I never saw him respond to her statement that she was "basically not a suspect"... His statement was before hers from what I remember. Could someone post it please.
ReplyDeleteWhy would it matter if his statement was before hers? Just curious? He has not changed his statement I believe is the point. So if you are saying you have seen it by stating that you know it was before hers than what is your question exactly?
ReplyDeleteThe "blog" post that we are commenting on states that McAusland said Trista LIED about not being a suspect. It implies that LE came out after she said she basically was not a suspect, and corrected her by saying she lied and that she is. That is the my point. It's the "spin" on the facts that I am pointing out. LE has not come forward to correct anything that Trista has said, as implied here, thought they have made a point to for some other people's statements. Although she is not alone in these tactics, the Blogger is twisting info to fit a need.
DeleteSo you are bashing LNM for apparently changing her mind about Justin's guilt? Isn't that ironic since you started out 80% sure one of the 3 adults in the house were responsible! Talk about hypocrits!
