As of April 21, Trista has a lawyer. (not confirmed fully, so speculation)

Investigators were planning to show Reynolds items that were recovered from the Kennebec River during a search of the Lockwood Dam on April 25, she said. They also planned to present her the same information that investigators shared with members of Ayla's paternal family -- father Justin DiPietro, aunt Elisha DiPietro and grandmother Phoebe DiPietro -- in October, Reynolds said.

"They've been doing this for six months," she said of the delays. "Six months ago, when all this stuff came up in the river, they told me they wanted to sit down and show things to me, and they still haven't done it. Now they're playing games with me."

Trista lawyers up, investigators stop talking to her. She feels like they're playing games with her, and she still hasn't been shown the evidence.

I can only think
a) there is no evidence
b) they do not need Trista to identify the evidence
c) showing Trista the evidence would jeopardize their case against HER

As we all know, detectives met with the DiPietro family in October; the discussion was frank, and McCausland views it as positive. 

FYI:  frank-/fraNGk/Adjective. Open, honest, and direct in speech or writing, esp. when dealing with unpalatable matters.

Somehow, members of a certain cult blog have found a way to spin the nature of the meeting with the DiPietros. At the same time, those people have not managed to find a way to explain the apparent lack of communication between Trista and law enforcement. Why isn't U4A up in arms about this? There must be someone they can send a petition to?!

Anyway, I took a look back at some of the things she has said regarding police, and I found a few statements of interest----

12/23/11-"Everything I'm hearing I'm hearing from news reporters," Trista Reynolds said. "I'm just like everybody else out there right now. I'm not hearing from any detectives, any state police, nothing — just what I hear on the news."

02/15/12-Trista Reynolds said that although police haven’t confirmed it, she is not a suspect. She said part of the reason for that is that police have told her things about the investigation.

05/18/12-Trista Reynolds said it's rare that she gets updates from police these days, but she continues to hope that there will be a tip that helps police crack the case.

05/20/12-Earlier this month, Reynolds was told that investigators planned to show her photographs of those items, but that hasn't happened yet, she said. "I don't know when I will be seeing what was found," she said. Reynolds said she felt mixed emotions upon learning that some items are not related to the case."I'm irritated, angry, frustrated and sad," she said. Reynolds said her frustrations also extend toward state police. "I think they could be doing a lot more than what they're doing," she said. McCausland said Friday that he understands Reynolds' frustration and the frustrations of other people who have been following the case for five months.

06/01/12-While McCausland said he talked to Trista Reyolds before the press conference, in an interview with reporters after the news conference, she said she had not heard from police, that she had been in appointments and had not been near a telephone early Thursday.

...Ayla's mother Trista Reynolds said the silence from police has become disquieting. Reynolds said she used to receive regular updates from state police detectives, but hasn't heard anything lately. "They don't call me," she said. "The only time I hear from them is if I call them and leave them a message. The detective that I work with will call me, but they don't freely call me like they used to."

12/28/12-Reynolds said a meeting scheduled for Dec. 19 was canceled by a detective who told her it would be rescheduled later that week. "I still haven't heard from them," Reynolds said Thursday. 12/29/12-After complaining Maine State Police cancelled a schedule meeting on the case of her missing daughter Ayla, Trista Reynolds told the Morning Sentinel the meeting has been rescheduled. Ayla Reynolds has been missing for more than a year. Trista Reynolds said this week the cancelled meeting would have focused on reviewing materials found during the search. She said police contacted her Friday to reschedule the appointment for next week.

Is it just me, or does it seem like Trista displays a concerning pattern of passive-aggression? She says horrible things about Justin in the media, and then wonders why he won't talk to her. She has essentially done the same thing to law enforcement. It's okay for her to be frustrated with the lack of progress in the case, but to say investigators aren't doing enough? To lie on investigators? What the hell is this woman's problem? To publicly say these things about the only people who can bring your daughter back to you baffles me. Next thing you know, she'll be threatening to sue them.

Trista may have hit the nail on the head. She said part of the reason she was not a suspect is because they told her things about the investigation. Now that they are not telling her anything, not showing her photos as promised, and cancelling/rescheduling meetings, can we safely assume that she is now a suspect? Hmm...

By the way, the fact that members of the paternal family have already been told the information that they keep withholding from Trista is intriguing. Are they not telling Trista because it implicates her? Because she might run her big mouth to the media and jeopardize the case? Or some other unknown reason? Your guess is as good as mine, but the whole thing is interesting.

Just a quick note to ask a few questions.  First, could you give me your attorneys name and number for my attorney? 

Second, I was thinking about doing a post on forensic astrology.  I would need Trista's permission.  Not for legal reasons  but for spiritual reasons.  She just needs to say yes or no, she does not need to contact me.  Then I would need her birthday, time and place, and the same for Ayla.  Any birthdate info on anyone else connected to this case you think we should look at would be very beneficial.  Even if it is just the date, not the place or time, it will be very helpful.  Especially Justin, Courtney, Elisha, Phoebe and Derek Tudela.  Other helpful dates/times would be: last known verified sighting of ayla, date and time of first 911 call, (we call that the outcry call).

 I really wish that law enforcement, either of the families, or some other informed person could answer one, some, or all of these questions!!!


Why can't the 911 calls be released? Can a more specific reason other than "active investigation" be given?

Whose phone was ringing in the car----was it Robert Fortier's phone or Trista's? If Robert's phone, did Trista have one of her own on her person?

What was the rationale behind letting Trista sleep, even though her child was reported missing?

Where was Baby Ray? Was he traveling with Trista or staying with someone else?

Was this a regularly scheduled trip to go visit Raymond Fortier, or did the trip just happen to coincide with Ayla's disappearance?

Who else is on Raymond Fortier's visitor's list?

Has Raymond Fortier been interviewed? Have any letters been confiscated?

When was the last time any of the Reynolds family members was in Waterville before December 16?

Were there any guns registered to Phoebe DiPietro, or any firearms found in the Violette Ave. home?

Why did Trista's family and friends lie about her reason for going to rehab? Why did they insist that she was only "using" alcohol?

Were the motel phone records checked?

Was there video surveillance at the motel?

Is Trista's unfinished polygraph still sufficient?

Was there anything of evidentiary value found in any of the seized cars? Was Robert Fortier's car seized and searched? Did the dogs get a chance to sniff for Ayla's scent in it?

Are there cell phone pings that back up Trista's supposed route to Machiasport?

Have cell phone pings for anyone yielded anything of value?

Why was Trista never shown photos of the evidence found in the dam?

Was anyone disciplined for leaking the information about blood being found to the media?

Has the FBI developed a profile for the suspect/crime?

Why did Trista stage her reaction to the press conference in which McCausland told the public that Ayla was unlikely to be found alive?

Why was the media allowed to film the Reynolds' reaction to that press conference, but none before or after that?

How many tipsters have reported seeing Ayla alive?

Why can't anyone be ruled out after a year?

Is it possible that another reward will be established?

Was there any investigation of DHHS or its employees resulting from this case?

Are benefits still being received for Ayla (or child support)?

Are all investigators on the same page regarding this investigation?

When will all of the evidence be tested? Why does the process seem to be taking so long?

(Not-so) Organized Thoughts

Some estimates, based on what has been reported. This map is my own interpretation, and I fully realize that the involved parties may have taken alternate routes (including one that led them straight through Waterville).

Since Trista and Fortier were nearing Ellsworth when the first call from Ronnie came at around 10 a.m., we can estimate they began traveling from Portland at about 7:30 a.m. The next call came when they reached Ellsworth. They next drove to Waterville from Ellsworth, a trip that took another hour and a half. So, we can estimate they made it to Waterville around 11:30 a.m.-12 pm.

A couple of things:

At the time Ayla was reported missing, Trista was mobile.

There are discrepancies in previous articles when compared to the newest one. Again, Trista's timeline is unstable and almost nonsensical. Example: at first, we were told that Fortier decided to let Trista sleep, and now we're being told that Ronnie said to let Trista sleep. I guess it wasn't important to tell her that her child was missing??? Did LE tell Ronnie to just let Trista sleep, or is that something he decided on based on his years of experience dealing with missing children's investigations?

Trista was sleeping and Fortier was not waking her up, but Justin is being blamed for her not finding out sooner. Ronnie also plays a role as mentioned above.

Trista's whereabouts are virtually unknown from 7:30 a.m. until about noon on the day Ayla went missing.


I am reluctant to call law enforcement out directly, but in this case there is one huge, glaringly obvious fuck up:

WHY WAS THERE NO BOLO OR APB ISSUED FOR TRISTA AND FORTIER'S VEHICLE? THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN STOPPED AND QUESTIONED/SEARCHED BY THE FIRST LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY THAT CAME IN CONTACT WITH THEM. IF NOT THAT, FORTIER SHOULD HAVE BEEN INSTRUCTED TO DRIVE IMMEDIATELY TO THE CLOSEST POLICE STATION. 


The lapse in time, and the leniency shown by law enforcement in such a critical matter, undermines any credibility they may have had as far as saying they've investigated both sides fully.
