I'm in the process of going back to look at how the police were commenting about/handling the investigation (publicly, at least) during the first few months. It's going to take awhile for me to get that done, because as you all know I work solo and I have lots going on right now! If you have notes of your own, feel free to help me out (juststopthelies@yahoo). =)
Anyway, I came across one of Peeter's earlier posts over on his Statement Analysis blob...Decent post, interesting poll, and the comments take the cake!
I hope to be back in the swing of things in the upcoming week...
Before I go though, I want to say a few things:
1. Justin saying "you're not her parent" is the only thing he could say... Obviously, Ayla is NOT with Trista. Even if Trista had Ayla removed, or went in to remove her, Trista does not CURRENTLY have Ayla in her possession. What Justin said makes perfect sense. The person who is hiding Ayla for Trista may think that he or she is doing the right thing, but he or she is not.Whatafuckingconcept, eh?
2. Pay close attention, Waterville PD and Maine State Police may be at odds over the investigation/handling of this case.
3. I have been somewhat overlooking the fact that the DiPietros allowed the police into their home with no search warrant. That was a move the DiPietros NEVER SHOULD HAVE MADE. You do not allow an officer to look for an eyelash in your eye without a warrant...but I understand that finding Ayla took precedence, so the DiPietros probably conceded their rights. Why would someone murder a child, hide her body, half-ass clean up her blood, and then ALLOW police officers to search with no warrant?
More to come on each of the above things at a later date...
Justin saying you are not her parent did make sense to me at the time, but now why hasnt he changed it to I have no idea who took Ayla? He had an idea then, why not now?
ReplyDeleteHe also has an idea when the time will be right.
DeleteNo he does not. Just because he says that when the time is right the truth will come out or tell itself. Does not mean he knows when that is.
DeleteHe is more concerned about Ayla's safety than getting tied up in a war of blogs or public perception. You may not have the ability to grasp it, but it does make sense.
DeleteI can understand that, but it doesnt answer the question,he definitely had an idea who took her after a couple of weeks, when he made that statement.By then LE would have told him what he could say.Now after 5 moths he has No idea? It doesnt make any sense.Even if he is saying Jessica took her,He would still have an Idea who did.But for some reason after 2 weeks he knew more than he does after 5 months?

DeleteWhy does everyone think that Justin knows who took Ayla exactly. He may have an idea or suspicions but that is all. Does no one think that if he knew for sure LE would know for sure because he would have told them and they would have gone right after that person? The answer is like everyone else he did not and does not. Nor does LE. That is why Ayla is not home. And even if it has been narrowed down it still has to be proven by finding where that person has hidden her because that is pretty much the only way to prove they took her. And that is like finding a needle in a haystack.
I thought Justin had a good idea becuase his friends and family have come right out and said who it was.It doesnt sound like suspicions,Its good to hear that they suspect but have no idea either. Then there is no proof she was taken is there?
DeleteWhat is wrong with you? Of course she was taken. Ayla is gone. She is missing. The fact is she is not in that house and somebody took her out of it.
DeleteAnd how would you know what Justin thinks? And as far as his friends and family they also have said their "suspicions." They are not going to convict someone without proof that is what the Reynolds family & friends do.
Give it up! Grace has already blown this case apart. She single handedly figured it out and has turned over details to authorities. I'm waiting for the arrests anyway now.......thanks to astrology. I think you're in the wrong field, Ob.
ReplyDeleteAnon! Case solved?? I'm anxious to hear all about it from LE!
DeleteHere we are about a month after Grace "blew the case wide open" (lol) and no arrests, no new news. And I had such high hopes that crazy grace had solved what MSP, WPD, and the FBI could not solve in over 6 months. :/ ---frenchie
DeleteIf the DiPietro family had refused to let police search their home after reporting a child missing from that home, I'm pretty sure a warrant would have been obtained just as soon as police were able to reach a judge. Refusing would have been immediately viewed as the next thing to an omission of guilt by both police and the public. Of course they would have had the right to refuse, but people (and police are only people, too) would never accept that an innocent parent would assert his rights and delay the investigation into the disappearance of his child.
ReplyDeleteYou do not know this to be a fact, so don't state it as such. Search warrants are very specific, and each area/person in the search will only be allowed if probable cause exists. Read Maine's rules of criminal procedure or the federal rules of evidence for guidance.
DeleteIgnorance is bliss.
Refusing a search of your home when you call your kid in missing is an admission of guilt. Everyone knows that. The LE look for the child everywhere in the house. Hell, my kid was asleep under a bunk bed, and they found him for me. Even the guy who bludgeoned Aliahnna Lemmon, the trusted babysitter, let LE search his house without a warrant. And, he had her body parts in his freezer! And, LE did not open the freezer! But the point is he was guilty as hell and he still let them search because, if you don't, then you are number one suspect, which does nothing for your child.
DeleteThe person who would have to give permission to search the home would be the owner so phoebe gave her consent and then complained about the mess they made. heidi helped her clean up the mess.
DeleteThat's not true. Phoebe didn't have to be there for consent to search the home to be given. EDUCATE YOURSELF. Geesh.
DeletePhoebe didn't complain either, she described her home when she got it back.
The blogger hits this right on the nose. The person who has Ayla is not Ayla's parent. Was not then and is not now. It clearly is not Trista who has Ayla in her possession right now. That does not mean that Justin did not then or now have suspicions as to who may have taken her. He however is not going to to tell the public at large those suspicions. That does not mean he has not told LE.
ReplyDeleteWhen are people going to realize and see that Justin is not going to play this out like some kind of game to be played in the public eye. He is more concerned about his daughter and her safety. So anything he knows and needs to tell anyone he has told to LE.
Exactly.
Delete"Why would someone murder a child, hide her body, half-ass clean up her blood, and then ALLOW police officers to search with no warrant?"
ReplyDeleteBecause besides hating Ayla, they hate themselves and each other and wanted all their lives to be a living hell? So, they would prefer to go to prison than just give Ayla back to the Reynolds? They were tired of their freedom and lack of limelight and public scorn? Phoebe was sick of everything she's worked her whole life for? Courtney and Elisha were sick of going to college and raising their babies? Justin was sick of truck driving school and whatever else he does that his freedom allows?
Using THEIR logic, you're exactly right...

DeleteRage of a hungover parent with a temper towards a child demanding to be cared for when the parent wants to sleep off a night of fun while the doctors office has an open spot from a cancelled appointment ~ kills
DeleteSeriously, stfu.
DeleteThe only person who was hungover that morning was Trista---she allowed her phone to ring over and over and over while she SLEPT with not a care in the world.
DeleteCouldn't have said it better myself. Anyone who is looking at it all objectively can see how many things Justin and his family said and did in good faith that it was the right thing to help find Ayla-- and which ultimately was used to harm their public perception. From obeying the advice not to talk to the media at all; to letting police officers swarm the home with no protective gloves, boots, etc. All made the search for Ayla take a nosedive. Literally.
ReplyDeleteJustin and his family reacted in the ways that they did because they immediately thought the maternal family had taken Ayla, as threatened. What people who attack their responses are basing expectations on is the reactions of parents who believe a random stranger has snatched their helpless child. Panic is evident in their tearful public pleas because they have no means whatsoever to communicate to the nameless faceless person that has taken their child.
In Justins case, he may or may not have been right about it, but his belief was that someone in Ayla's maternal family had her. He didn't believe her to be in danger or taken by a complete stranger (to Ayla anyway). So his reactions and those of his famiy reflected that. It's VERY simple to understand, if only someone is inclined to be the least bit objective. They didn't come out screaming to the media because they believed that the trail was pretty specific and by following police advice and instructions they had the best chance of regaining Ayla. They did make themselves 100% available to police at ALL times and any statements otherwise are lies and totally unfounded. It was months into the investigation before LE said that the Dipietros weren't "talking to them anymore". Well, okay. Because the hours and days of questioning the same things over and over, and accusations at them were getting them nowhere. The public hated them, the police didn't seem to believe them, and they needed to move on and start working on things from a different angle. And they did so. No matter what the public who isn't in on everything may believe.

Well-said, Gretchen
DeleteGretchen,
DeleteI wholeheartedly agree
Couldnt have said that better, either...
DeleteThere are people who see it as it is.
Its posts like this that lift weights from my heart.
I'm glad, Selena. It is difficult for many people (myself included) to know what your family endures amd to know this battle has to be fought entirely uphill all the way to the top. So sorry I can't help more. But the "top" will be a better view once we get there. -Gretchen
DeleteMy bologna has a first name...Its obscure!
ReplyDeleteYour mom has a first name too...
Deletelol
DeleteAnd so does your FATHER obscure.
DeleteUm, what is with them ^..? They are pointless.
Delete1. I agree that Justin saying "You're not her parent" is about all Justin could say at the time he said it. Perhaps too, he thought it was the more wise thing to say. This was just 2 weeks into the investigation. I have no way of knowing, but assume that Justin did think that Trista or a Reynolds family member, or friend of, abducted Ayla. I'm sure he told his suspicions to L.E. I do believe he was ask not to speak to, or reveal too much to the media during the EARLY days of the investigation. (by Waterville pd) I'd be giving L.E. plenty of time to do their investagating before I revealed very much to the public, or the person, or persons, I felt was responsible. Why give them a heads up?
ReplyDelete2. Interesting. I'd like to hear the thoughts of those who live in Maine and Waterville concerning this.
3. I also agree that the DiPietro's should not have allowed a search without a warrent. Not becasue they had anything to hide, but for the integrity of the investigation. I'm sure though that never entered their minds at the time. I don't think anyone would under the circumstances.
I have looked at every angle I could think of including what LE was thinking and when...but I didnt think about LE being at odds with each other...very good point.
ReplyDeleteThe answer to your ultimate question: ignorance and arrogance are as likely answers as innocence in general and overwhelmingly likely in a case like this. Think about it. If someone killed their kid and wanted to police to believe a kidnapping occurred, isn't saying "go get a warrant" throwing up a huge red flag? When pretending to be innocent and worried about getting back a kidnapped child, no one with any intelligence is going to refuse police access to their home.
ReplyDeleteI think The Answer said it right "ignorance and arrogance"...they thought theyy had everything cleaned up. Guess it is not as easy as they thought to clean blood and leave no trace...Did you learn nothing from Dexter Lance?
