Devil's Advocate---Kinda?

A disgrace chief talks about money in Ayla's case (Am I the only one who can't figure out what the title means?)

Waterville taxpayers should all ask the chief of police to step down ASAP. How would this help? During the middle of an investigation (of this magnitude) replacing the chief would just delay things further.

He has made the disappearance of Ayla Reynolds a money problem. How? It seems to me as though he has used resources and conducted searches without regard for money. In my opinion, that's an even bigger problem. They have searched areas just to "eliminate" them. After receiving more than a thousand leads, you would think they would be searching areas of interest by now. By the way, MSP may be footing the bill---not Waterville PD.

I am outraged that we have a little girl who probably is dead out there, and we have three people who were there that night. I can understand the outrage that she's still out there. Although I disagree that she's dead, I am just as outraged that she is still "missing." People can harp on the fact that there were 3 people there that night all they want. It doesn't change the FACT that MSP/WPD do not have evidence that those 3 people caused Ayla's disappearance. I say "fact" because if they have such evidence, it's reckless, irresponsible, unethical, and dangerous to not have made an arrest.

No arrest, no Ayla, no information and all the chief can tell us is how much this is costing. I think this is an unfair characterization. Anyone who has followed the case knows that the chief and MSP have released more details than just their budget. Is it a bit tacky to release how much the investigation is costing thus far? I think so, especially when law enforcement could bottom line a lot of other things in this case. I haven't seen this happen before (LE saying we spent X amount so far, during the middle of a missing child investigation), but I'm sure it happens.

It think he's a disgrace to his uniform. There are a lot of things that disgrace the uniform, but your sentiments don't exactly rise to that level. You are Monday morning quarterbacking the decisions and actions of your local police department. You care about Ayla, so wouldn't you support the agency at least until there's closure---or until it looks as though the agency has completely bungled this?

I wonder how much would be too much if it was his child? This is another unfair question. It's not his child, so to ask this question is just...stupid.

He and his people should just find her. People like you should just let them do their jobs. If you can do better, then suit up.

I try not to be critical of law enforcement, but in this particular case I have been at times. I think there are a lot of reasons to criticize them, but the money spent (or unspent) on this investigation is not a problem in my mind.
