BabyGate 2

Continue here! Once it gets to 200 posts I have to cut off the discussion. Feel free to carry it on here.

For those of you who asked, there's nothing I can do about the 200 comment thing. Some people can see more than 200 comments, other people cannot, and some don't know that they have to click "load more comments" so they miss out.

Hope all is well with everyone, sorry I've been rather busy!

Ah did know Justin when he was younger, but Justin likely didn't remember her. She was already an adult. What she's been clear about (and what anyone actually paying attention for the sake of understanding rather than for the sake of looking for ways to tear her and others around her apart) is that she is very close to the family Justin, Phoebe, Elisha,Courtney and the children went to stay with that Saturday night. She has been very clear -though it's nuts that she's had to repeatedly answer the questions. She talked to Heidi every day most days for over a decade. The day Justin and family arrived she was thrown into the situation with them from a distance and it consumed her life for many weeks. Why? Because her best friend was trying to help a family pick up the pieces of their life while a storm continued to rage aroind them with no sign of stopping. Angela and Heidi and their families happen to be the kind of folks who are often referred to as "kid people". They have big hearts. All of them. They are the kind to open their hearts, homes, and oftentimes wallets when others are in need. Angela made clear the facts about how she came to have any conversations with Justin. People who want to make her and her family villains in this charade they call "a fight for justice" have opted to call her truths mere lies. And everyone saw how she tried to fight with the entity best described as a poisonous "virtual" snake filled with blind malice. She stood firm, answered her hecklers with truh and a clear voice (if somewhat wordy ;). She explained that at some point she was compelled to pass along her prayers etc. personally over the phone. This resulted in a variety of kinds of conversations. Some short and prayerful and others longer and intended to let him process things. Some people have a "counselor" type of nature and she's one of them. That is why they spoke and eventually she felt like she had to do something more than be supportive and pray. The website is what she came up with. She thought it would help spread awareness. And while she was surprised at the route it took, that certainly did happen. She accepts that the ugliness she's faced from people is a part of the price paid to continue the conversations and media coverage...even if they existed only because certain people would rather engage in attack dialogue than in open minded conversation that does not attempt to express giftedness in the imaginary art of knowing without knowledge.
Was this the only story she wrote and edited?
Is or was this the only story that she wrote during the time that she was overworked and stressed?
When she shares info is it typical for her to have to edit ?
Was this story edited more than any other?

    2. I'm scratching my head here. Not only because the questions are strange and don't seem at all pertinent, but also because they are probably questions that can't even be answered. Does someone who writes in their spare time probably have more than one written work- published or not- that they've done...I think probably so. What's the point of that question? I just- I can't figure out how in the world it's important to you that she tried to make a website for a missing child for awareness and wrote something about the events as she understood them. People do it thousands of times a day about myriad topics. And those that "share info" do usually have to edit for clarification. If you read newspapers, textbooks, magazines or anything else you should know that. Doesn't everyone know that?? Sorry. I'm just not following your thought process in the least. And lastly- having no way to reasonably estimate how many edits are made on average to all written works, how would the commenter you're addressing (pescara), the author of the page on the website, or anyone really be able to answer that? I think the edit was simple. Wording was corrected. Something left unclear was fixed. -tully

    3. @pescara - Jeepers, creepers. I can't tell if you're speaking for Angela Harry because you are her mother, writing a long epitaph, or you are actually Angela Harry. I'm sure there's a reason, there usually is. Your heartfelt plea for Angela's redemption makes me want to confide in you and Angela, too.

I'm not a prayerful person. I come from the school of 'be very careful what you ask for'. I've found its better to not ask for anything. I do have a morning thought, though. It took me awhile to get my health back after Dec 2011. Since then, every morning I wake up with the same thought.

'Please let this be the day that Ayla Bell Reynolds' abductor surrenders to authorities.'

      That's it.

I have a pet name for Ayla's abductor, it's Heezaher. Thank you for letting me open up and share with a 'kid people' supporter. Maybe tomorrow will be the day?

    4. lol. Sure there's a reason. She's someone who knows her and is sick of seeing her friend (?) family member (?) questioned and mischaracterized. Apparently some people don't sit on the sidelines and watch stuff happen that is wrong and just say nothing. Thank goodness. I think it would be a shame for people not to stick up for what they know to be true about their friends when something this overwhelming is happening. Do you follow her facebook page for Ayla? It's kind of eye opening. I think it takes a lot of guts to withstand so much. It would have been easier to disappear right when it all started. I'm glad to know there are people with steel spines out there.

As long as you're confiding, Pogamen... how can you get so much information but not be able to tell us who the abductor really is? Is it because you communicate with Ayla and Ayla doesn't know the name of who took her? I just don't know how it works. And are you in the UK? I can't remember if you've said where you live.

I, too, wish everyday that the abductor will surrender. Or be found. Something. I also wish that people who've trashed strangers for trying to do good would get a big bag of Karma delivered. -tully

    5. Tully, I haven't seen much at all written about Angela Harry on this blogsite. Do you think that's the reason for the questioning replies? Oh, yeah, the baby gate and baby gate comments. I didn't comment about the baby gate. I would rather encourage BabyGate and drum up support to keep Ayla's name and picture active in the news.

Normally, I don't reply to Pescara. Today, I did. Nuff said about that. I haven't said anything about AH, except when I realized a lot of the small details originated from her accounts. And with that, I wrote... hmmm. Nuff said about that.

You say, '...(?) questioned and mischaracterized. Apparently some people don't sit on the sidelines and watch stuff happen that is wrong and just say nothing.'

Tully, I'm raising my fists and doing the rope-a-dope dance, saying to you, 'Point me in their direction and I'll talk to those mean people.' Not. Who is being mean to AH on this blog? Me?

'Do you follow her facebook page for Ayla?' NO. I limit my online involvement to this blog and reading online news articles (but avoid all video).

'... tell us who the abductor really is?' I told LE what I know. It hasn't changed, with the exception of additional information I could have given involving location of possible forensic evidence. Some of those locations have changed. [untoward] I first heard the abductor's name when Heezaher made an introduction with Justin DiPietro. Being an aside event, I paid very little attention to their conversation and quickly forgot the name. Later, I got the first name from Jess Parker. Later than that, I got the last name from help seeing Romney's Portland fundraising event. The abductor attended, donated $500 and took home an autographed certificate or photo (not sure what it was). Look at the timeline on that.

'Is it because you communicate with Ayla and Ayla doesn't know the name of who took her?' Ayla didn't know her abductor's name. She confirmed - It looks like a man to me. I don't communicate with Ayla in the way that you seem to think. I heard Heezaher's voice - looks like a man, sounds like a man.

'...in the UK?' NO. I live in Alaska, and I have stated that on this blog.

Tully, I'm not a karma person, either, but I hope you get your wish for people who have trashed strangers.

    6. I'm going to answer for tully in case they don't come back- No! :) the hatred and stuff they're referring to takes place on the other blogs often referred to by Obscure or #2. They do it to her, to the Tudelas, and several people that are associated with their group- also referred to here often as TTLOM. If you haven't visited the other blogs from the beginning or been on the facebook scene you wouldn't know so much about it. I am sure that tully wasn't at all suggesting it was taking place from commenters here. Just in the overall sense that it's happened and has yet to stop. -Marla S.

    1. Thanks pogamen, I can see how a helpless, innocent child, takes the heart of the public. I have never seen anything in the news about Fay Johnson or Jason Reil. I'm sure their family's are as distraught as Ayla's family. Why do they not get airtime, because they are adults? So many people go missing in the US everyday. It's a sad, sad situation.

    2. getrealpeople, Jason Reil and Fay Johnson are also highlighted on my Missing In Maine page (on facebook), as are others who come up missing. I have over 3,000 people who have liked my page, so their posters do go out and are shared by others. I'm sure that some get air time based on the 'cuteness' factor (sadly). But the airtime given is more likely a direct result of the interest of the readers and the forceful nature of the missing person's families. It is really the families who keep the missing information out there. Another factor would be age, some look more at a child being abducted as more horrific, basically some people think an adult missing may have just decided to hide out and it makes it less horrific to some people.

I would use Natalee Holloway's mother, Beth as a prime example of a parent who would not let her daughters story die. She was beaten up by many a person because of her (what they deemed) pushy nature. But she did what she had to do to find out what happened to Natalee. There are many reason why some stay in the public eye and others do not. In Maine, a toddler being taken from their bed is highly unusual and probably why Ayla got more media attention than others. 3. Bystander- AH got the information she had because she wasn't the general "public" in this situation. While not directly involved with those in the home at the outset, she was and is a close and trusted family member of Justins close friend. A friend whose home he stayed in during he days following Ayla's abduction. Just as anyone in such a situation would talk to those surrounding them for support at a time like that, Justin talked to them about what was going on. It's rather simple.. The non-earth shattering details about who lived in the home, who woke up 1st,2nd and 3rd, were not going to jeapordize the investigation- to anyone's knowledge. The goal of sharing that was to get information blasted across the internet if possible to help locate Ayla.

    1. Why not just come out and say it? A daycare operator/owner is a DiPietro family friend. AH is/was a daycare employee. If Ayla attended that daycare, it should have made all of them persons of interest. I'm not saying the daycare is involved in any way. I'm not even saying that Ayla was ever in attendance at the daycare. I'm saying there's more rules governing a daycare than you know.

    2. Just come out and say what? AH was never a daycare employee and doesn't live in the state- has always lived at least hundreds of miles away. Ayla never attended that daycare you refer to. those things have been stated several times. Though I can't swear if I know that from this blog or only from the facebook group where they answered all this. But I feel pretty sure it's been said here. The other thing that bears mentioning again is that Ayla was living in Waterville for the first time from October to December 2011. For about 8 or 9 weeks total. I don't even know if she ever visited the home where the daycare is.

    3. Hmmm Pogaman What a weird comment to make. Sorta of out of the blue don't ya think? None of your "clues" would lead one to think that as you say they should have been made persons of interest. So what are you trying to tell us? Were all your other clues incorrect and now we should look in this direction? Just wondering.

    4. Um, I sleuthed out AH at the beginning of this case. I know where she lives, her maiden name, her association with the Tudela's and a lot of other stuff which proved to be not pertinent to this case.

"Angela Harry got the information she had because she wasn't the general public". Well, duh? Then why did AH broadcast it to the world wide web if it was so confidential. Also, if the 'non-shattering details about who woke up first, second, third and found Ayla' are not going to jeopardize the case, then please, by all means let us hear it from those that were there. It would clear up a lot of confusion for some of us that just want to know because, well, we are all busy bodies.

My memory isn't as good as it used to be, but I do recall that AH was running a day care business for a while in Maryland or Virginia. It doesn't matter, and maybe I'm wrong. I'm not going to spend time looking it up.

I don't think I've ever written any thing negative about AH or the Tudela's. I don't doubt they are all nice people trying to do the right thing and are in no way involved in any wrong doing.

I don't known how Obscure got the info on VTLady, but it only concerned a criminal drug charge against her. It certainly said something, with all of VTLady's negative comments about drugs, and her comments about Justin being a drug user and seller. I don't know if Obscure had the foresight to look at VTLady's criminal background, or if Obscure was given this info. But, you certainly can't compare it to: knowing where someone lives; their maiden name; who they associate with; blah, blah, blah. That's pretty scary that you are investigating people to that extent.

Again, that is why I only post here!!!

    14. Did Angela post anything negative about the Reynolds family? Did she call anyone a murderer? Did she constantly claim that Ayla's disappearance was motivated by drug addicts or fueled by a drug induced rage? NO.

I'm not aware of Angela saying anything wrong about anyone involved. When you sleuthed her, you did so only because she published a blog to raise awareness.

Now, use all of your wisdom to figure out the different between VTLady and Angela.

Interesting how many people have no clue what's wrong with what they've done all these long months. More so because it's so often pointed out to them. _Yb

    16. I certainly wouldn't want to be the one judging what another does as right or wrong. Everyone makes mistakes and sometimes those mistakes come from misinformation. Perhaps people pointing out to them that they are wrong, isn't the way things change, perhaps them figuring out for themselves they are wrong, is how it should be. For me, I won't judge, I haven't walked in their shoes. Frankly, I think think there has been some pretty harsh criticism all around and not just from one side to another. No one's perfect, Lord knows I'm not. - KJ

    17. Oh give it a rest KJ. All you have ever done is go around pointing out what others do wrong in your opinion and grandstanding about it. Get off your moldy soapbox. Posting on a public blog that one has sleathed someone out and has at the ready the persons location and maiden name is not ok - and there is no double standard. It's being done to someone who tried damn hard to mind her own business while helping with awareness for a missing baby and being a good friend to those she cared about. Though some try to cast her in the lot with those who trash reputations, she's not done it once. Any statement from anyone saying she has or does is a flat out lie. Obscure posting info of hateful asshats who speak cruel lies and spin malicious rumors in order to give them a taste of their own poison isn't even comparable.

Obscure, I felt relief when Bystander mentioned he checked out AH. I'm satisfied with that check and disregard. Are you saying you knew, from the beginning, that Angela Harry was a cool person and can be vouched for - sight unseen? For months, I wondered - Who's AH?

So, I now know there is a Jessica Reynolds and a Jess Parker. I'm still not sure who Jesse Carmichael is, or is not. I think I have an Angela problem, too. Is there another Angela, maybe even an AH in Waterville, Winslow, or Portland?

    1. Funny to me that the Reynolds claim DHHS said Justin was supposed to return Ayla per agreement after their meeting with Trista. Yet DHHS never followed through and made him return her. Now supposedly follow up with DHHS was suggested by the ER doctors in a follow up and again DHHS did not follow through and visit or call Justin. I mean really what is wrong with this picture? Who do we believe here? DHHS a system we trust to do their job? Doctors we trust to do theirs a follow through? Or people who have yet to provide documentation showing us that yes indeed DHHS and doctors were involved.

    5. Um how would DHHS make Justin return Ayla? What state do you live in? Does your child protective services in your state have no power to follow through if they supposedly give an order?

    6. I am assuming that three months later that if Ayla was still with Justin that means that DHHS did not follow through. Or they were taking a really long time to do so. And if that were the case I believe that as much as we have heard Trista and Jeff being vocal that is absolutely something that we would have heard about. The fact that DHHS was in the process of trying to get Ayla from Justin. I have not heard that. Have you?

      Delete
    7. Nope. No one has ever had the gall to state that... but it's not like having no proof of their statements has stopped them saying so many other things. I think DHHS might have a serious issue with her or her family lying and stating they were in that process and it might even jeopardize her having her younger child if they did make such claims. But I admit I have absolutely no knowledge of whether it would lead to DHHS being upset or taking action. I would just imagine so but I'm probably wrong. -Marla S

The other doctor's visit was when Ayla still lived with Trista. Doctors HAVE to report these things immediately. DHHS was involved with Trista after that, at least during the drunken fight she had with her sister while the kids were present. Perhaps they investigated and came to believe that her leg was hurt with Trista and she was lying that it happened with Justin. She had perhaps lied to her mother about it also. At any rate, DHHS supported Justin having Ayla around a month after this visit.

It was agreed that Justin could care for Ayla while she was there, and return her after. Justin did not return her. DHHS could not make him return her, as there was no legal custody agreement and DHHS did not legally remove Ayla. You said DHHS had been involved for quite a while and had no problem visiting and following up with her. So, how long were they involved prior to that incident and for what reasons? I've only heard of this one time.

    21. Furthermore, if Trista truly suspected Justin abused Ayla in September, and reported it to the doctor, who reported it to DHHS. Why would she ask him to take her? Why would DHHS agree? Did she lie about what happened with Ayla's leg? Or did she not care about her suspicions he abused Ayla?

    22. Idk for sure, but I think if a dr and/or DHHS was informed, that would ease her mind. Possibly she wasn't really accusing him, at that time, but just concerned of the possibility. And then, hind sight is 20/20. I'm not saying he did abuse Ayla, but if there were concerns, that were eased, she may have thought everything was ok.

Say you picked up your child from daycare and the child had bruises every now and then. You ask the provider, what happened. They give excuses, that you believe. Or maybe you dont. Maybe you switch daycares or maybe you report it to someone. Then... A child gets seriously injured at that daycare. Hind sight is 20/20.

    25. anon 8:51 - another stupid, over-used phrase? She went missing "on Justin's watch!" Whenever a child goes missing it's "on someones watch" - that doesn't mean they are guilty of disappearing the child. When there's a parental abduction, isn't it usually because the other parent has, or is supposed to have, the child "on their watch"?

The OTHER people involved on the OTHER SIDE are the ones who maintained a one sided and hateful bunch of blogs. Attacking anyone who disagreed with them and dragging names of people not even commenting on their blogs right through the mud with no remorse. And if anyone dared try to argue a point with them they were called evil and other such things. YOU can't have it both ways, anon. Your friends can't even be honest. At least Obscure was up front and clear about how this blog would run. We don't attack people for their statements --we highlight the statements that don't make sense or can be disproven with facts. I cannot imagine Trista arranging temporary care for Ayla with Justin if these concerns were genuine and sincere. Did Trista confront Justin with her concerns, or just say these things behind Justin's back?

Interesting to note "no bruises reported by mom" and yet the examination revealed a "nickel sized bruise over L post iliac crest." How did Trista miss that?

    6. I agree Anon 3:33. I imagine Trista received a copy of the report, and released it on the internet.

As I read the report, it is Trista that raises the question of abuse...not the attending physican. The words "maternal concern" struck me. If a doctor suspects abuse, he/she is obliged to report the findings. A doctor won't run the suspicion by a parent, as he/she could be the potential abuser. JMO.

  11. Here is my thinking on the whole DHHS issue. There had to be involvement with DHHS before this one fight between Trista and her sister. If the fight happened at night and police were called as long as the kids were not in any danger the police would have ordered one of the adults to leave the house for the evening and the next day they would have called DHHS to go evaluate the situation. One drunken fight does not get your kids taken away nor are you told to go to rehab or lose your kids. If the police believed the kids were in danger then they would have called DHHS immediately and they would have been removed or placed with a family member until the next day or an adult would have been arrested and the kids left with a sober person in that house. We also do not know if both Jessica and Trista were drunk that night or just one of them. Here is a link to the Child Protection procedures in Maine. http://www.ptla.org/maine-child-protection-proceedings

What does DHHS do when they get a complaint?

One of three things can happen:

DHHS can decide that the complaint is not appropriate. They will take no further action beyond documenting the phone call. (Example: A family member is just trying to get back at someone, but there is really no basis for the complaint.)
DHHS can decide that the likely risk of harm is low to moderate. In these situations DHHS usually refers the case to a "Community Intervention Program" (CIP). The CIP will do a safety assessment and will offer voluntary services.
DHHS can decide to conduct an investigation by its staff, to find out more.

Trista also states in interviews she left Ayla with Justin while she was in rehab and so she could get on her feet. She also stated something to the fact that she knew Ayla was safe with Justin. This is after the supposed abuse issues had happened. I'm sure after leaving rehab she would have had certain things she had to do to stay sober, meetings, counseling and such. She was homeless without any family support. She also had another child to care for. Just trying to stay sober without any other stresses are hard enough but put the other factors into the picture and then add another child to take care of. It was in Ayla's best interest to stay in a home with her dad and the family support of her Aunt, Grandmother, and Uncle. I think Trista knew that was best for Ayla and kept Ayla with Justin while she was getting on her feet. I give her kuddos for that.

We have heard from Wordman's an account of Trista sleeping with Justin from May 2011 until October 2011. That says she was sleeping with a man she thought was abusing her daughter. That makes zero sense to me. No accusations of abuse came out until one of Trista's friends started spouting off about it 1 day after Ayla went missing. This is when police were still thinking she either walked out on her own or was abducted. I do believe Trista was being influenced by the people in her life at the time.

    1. some good points anon, made me think that if DHHS had been involved with Trista for some time, and she'd seen Jessica lose her kids (for who knows what reason?), then if Ayla's leg was hurt with Trista (drunken diaper change, whatever), wouldn't she say "ohh, that must have happened when Justin had her." I believe Becca would even encourage her to say that to the doctor, even if she didn't believe it, since according to her, DHHS has it out for their family. When kids are brought in for injuries, there are potential abuse questions which are asked over and over again. What can they say? "I don't know" - "I was changing her diaper" - the easiest way to get out of it would be to say "she was with her dad"

    2. Anon 8:42, it makes zero sense because it's not driven by logic. Women sleep with abusive men, including men who abuse their kids, all the time. Does it "make sense"? No, but do you deny it's a common occurrence?

Sounds to me like Trista believe she could change Justin if only they got together as a couple to form a family around Ayla. This is naive but not particularly unusual.

    3. Anon 8/31/12 9:25

But why would Trista do this? She has stated there was never anything between Justin and her, they were just mutual friends. She has also said, Justin never had anything to do with Ayla until I went to get a little help for myself. She has stated that Ayla is hers. (Paraphrasing.) She doesn't sound like there was ever any relationship between her and Justin, so why would Trista, "believe she could change Justin if only they got together as a couple to form a family around Ayla". Why would she want to form a family with someone she didn't know, or love? Why is she engaged to another man, and he is the one who named Ayla. Doesn't sound like she had much going on with Justin. JMO

  12. Anon 9:25

I agree women sleeping with abusive men is not an unusual occurrence but I do not feel this was the case. This is not a women who has said Justin abused her nor is she a women who was stuck in an abusive relationship with a man. Trista herself has said they were never in a relationship. This is a women who had a one night stand with Justin, got pregnant and when she told him she was pregnant(if she did)did not get the response she wanted she had no contact with him for more than a year from the time she conceived Ayla. It has been said she was in a relationship with Ray while she was pregnant with Ayla, Ray helped pick Ayla's name. She then got pregnant with Little Ray and still at that point had no contact with Justin. It was not until Ray went to jail that Justin was required to take a DNA test in order for Trista to get child support and state assistance. This is not in my opinion a woman that was pining away for Justin hoping to spend the rest of her life with him nor do I think she was naive. If she really was hoping to change Justin so she could be a family with him I think she would have called him once Ayla was born and tried to get him back in her life then. She said the minute Ayla was born she looked at her and knew she looked exactly like Justin. If not for Ray going to jail who knows if Justin would have ever known Ayla. I'm not saying it couldn't have happened that way but something about the whole poor naive Trista just doesn't sit right with me. I do believe both parents have made mistakes as do most parents in the world no one is perfect but when something looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, I call it a duck.

    2. anon 9:25 and getreal...I totally agree. Trista strikes me as a woman very dependent on having a man in her life. With Raymond incarcerated, two small children to care for, homelessness, mental and substance abuse issues...well, it was probably time to revisit Justin.

What I don't get is if Trista genuinely suspected Justin of abusing Ayla, she wouldn't have arranged for him to care for their daughter during her absence. That in itself is a form of child abuse. Entrusting the care of your child in the hands of an individual or household you fear harms your child is criminal IMO.
