LE in Susan Smith Investigation (OFF TOPIC) - CLOSED for Comments

Interesting reading on law enforcement in another high profile case, that of Susan Smith. I don't know how MSP is handling Ayla's case, but I do think the media is being used in a way that is contrary to what most people believe. I see MSP going hard at the DiPietros and Courtney, but I think this may be an attempt to divert attention away from the real perps. Doing so may give the perps a false sense of security...John Nale's speech, when he announced the end of the reward, has always stuck out to me. I DO NOT think he was talking to Justin. I think he was speaking clearly, and directly, to Trista and her crew. Anyway, the full Susan Smith story is here. I have only copied the parts that I found curious.

Experts had made a tremendous error when they told the divers to assume that anyone trying to hide a car would drive it into the water at a high rate of speed. None of the experts considered that a driver might simply let a car roll from the edge of the banks into the water. It is easy to envision that a car driven into a body of water at a high speed would go further than a car driven slowly, in reality, the opposite occurs. The faster that a car hits the water, the more waves it creates which stops the forward momentum of the car. A car driven at a high rate of speed into water simply drops and sinks at the edge of the body of water. Because the Mazda had been rolled into the lake at a slow speed, it had drifted out much further from the edge of the water, nearly 100 feet. Drivers searched the edge of the water, while the Mazda remained submerged. (Kidnapping ruled out in error?)

From the start of the case, investigators carried out meticulously planned interrogations of Susan Smith that were designed to gradually break down her defenses so that she would confess. The investigators behavior and movements were carefully scripted and choreographed. There were no ad libbed or casual questions to Susan.

Investigators learned that Susan was not just a brokenhearted mother but a strong willed woman and that they would have a difficult time getting her to confess. (Is this the same for Trista?)

Investigators met several times each day during the nine days that the Smith children were missing to plot strategy and consider their next move in interrogating Susan.

One of the investigators tactics was to build up the media frenzy directed at David and Susan Smith. One example of the way the investigators shaped the news was at the press conference held by Sheriff Wells on Tuesday, November 1, exactly one week after Susan made her claims about being carjacked. Wells met in the parking lot of the Union County courthouse with a dozen reporters. Wells words were carefully scripted and impeccably planned. There was no question to whom Wells statement was directed to: Susan Smith. Wells said, "I dont know that were any closer to finding the car." "I have nothing encouraging." "Were following old information that weve just not gotten to. "I dont think its developed into anything as of yet to be any more excited about than yesterday." (Media frenzy, sound familiar?)

The investigators contacted the producers of Americas Most Wanted and had them tape a segment on the disappearance of the Smith brothers. The investigators hoped that the additional media coverage would bring pressure on Susan and would push her to confess. The investigators contacted a group of Unions most influential ministers to arrange for them to hold a press conference to appeal to the carjacker. Agent Caldwells most elaborate scheme involved the creation of an authentic appearing newspaper on desktop publishing software that contained an article about a young mother who had killed her children, then served a short prison sentence and upon her release from prison, married a wealthy physician. A photograph of a policewoman Susan did not know would be used. Caldwells intention was to convince Susan to confess with the expectation that she might lead a different life with a wealthy man. (The fact that LE planned to use such deceptive tactics is intriguing)

The Americas Most Wanted segment never aired, the newspaper was never created and the ministers gathered in front of the cameras in front of the Union County courthouse, not to appeal to the carjacker, but to ask for understanding.

Baby Kate

I'm not going to outline the full case here, because I don't have time at the moment. Just google "baby Kate Phillips" if you are not familiar with her case. She has been missing for awhile. Her father was charged in connection with the disappearance; he was recently found guilty of unlawful imprisonment. Baby Kate is still missing though, and police say that her father is now the prime suspect in her murder.

Anyway, there was early speculation in the case that Baby Kate had been given away.
There was also speculation that Baby Kate's mother played a role in her disappearance.

Police have strongly refuted both claims.

The police statement rebutted other theories that have been presented about what happened to Baby Kate.

“Speculation during the first 10 months of the investigation that ‘Baby Kate’ was given to someone else is not supported by the evidence,” the police statement said.

“Previous speculation as to the involvement of the mother, Ariel Courtland, in the disappearance of Katherine Phillips is also not supported by the evidence,” the police said. “Extensive investigation into Ms. Courtland has been conducted by multiple law enforcement agencies. It has been concluded by investigators, and through judicial proceedings, that she did not have the time, means, or motive necessary, or that she has any knowledge of Baby Kate’s whereabouts.”

UNTIL I hear a statement worded that strongly ruling Trista out, I will continue to blog about my beliefs. If LE has ruled her out, sharing that information with the public will not jeopardize this case. At all. I don't understand MSP's position in this case. They seem to want people to believe that they have 3 suspects, but they have not publicly named them or filed any charges. What gives? Could it be that MSP actually has NO IDEA about what happened in this case? Could it be that their ideas and initial feelings are not "supported by any forensic evidence?" What's really going on? 9 months and waiting. Ayla needs to be reunited with her family.

Tori Gifford – Oh No You Didn’t!

Given the events of the past several weeks, it should surprise no one that blogger Tori Gifford's credibility is being seriously questioned. Having once had the dubious honor of blogging with her, I can speak to her behavior and personality from first-hand experience. Although in recent days I have decided to limit the online drama surrounding this case, Tori's recent post filled with lies and slander has made this response more than necessary and I appreciate Obscure for giving me the opportunity to address this on her blog. 

Just Stop The Lies. The time for truth is now.

Tori Gifford is the worst liar I have ever met. You can take that one of two ways,  and both fit. She lies even more than Casey Anthony, and her lies are no more believable than Casey’s were either. This is made all the more hilarious to me, as I predict that Tori's very public downfall will be precisely because of her correspondence with a  certain “renown” statement analysis expert. Do you think Peter will mention on his blog how she successfully lied to him? Me neither. But lie to him (and about him) she did.

In her recent “comeback” post, Tori Gifford claimed that I posted emails stolen from her email account. I can prove this is a blatant lie. First of all, if I stole the email from her account, then it stands to reason that I would be the only one who had a copy, unless I forwarded the email to others. Would anyone like to back Tori up and claim  that I forwarded a copy of this “stolen” email to them? Anyone? …Bueller?

How about you, Obscure? If I am the only one besides Tori (and Peter Hyatt, presumably, but we will get to him in a moment) with a copy of that email, how were you able to get a copy with the blacked out names revealed?

Because Tori forwarded the email to others besides me, that’s how. After I revealed the email on my website, www.JusticeForAyla.org, Obscure either contacted her anonymous source or vice versa, and posted the email with the doctor’s name revealed. 

If that isn't proof enough, try this one:  If the email was stolen, wouldn’t Peter Hyatt have demanded I remove the email from my site? After all, if the email were stolen, it would be a violation of his privacy rights as well. The email was just as damaging to Peter's credibility, as Obscure pointed out. I have heard nothing from Peter Hyatt. I will assume Obscure hasn’t either, as the post with the email is still up at this site as well.

Tori’s next lie purports that when I released the email containing her personal information I did not release the “fifty prior emails" where I “hounded” her to write a book for me. I am not sure where she got her numbers from, but it is clearly seen in the email released on my site, that I did ask her to write a book. So, is she saying that I sent her forty-nine other emails previously asking? Well Tori, I’d like to see you back up that statement. Can you forward these emails to someone to verify them? I'm sure Obscure wouldn't mind.

If, however, Tori is referring to our IM conversations, I have copies which I can send directly through Gmail which will verify to the receiver that they are UNEDITED. Are you willing to do the same, Tori Gifford? If so, I bet Obscure would just love to be the recipient of all those late night chats we had as well, just to judge whether or not you were “hounded” by me. And I can send her ALL of them. You just say the word.

The sheer fact that Tori Gifford is so willing to lie on the "family" blog is very telling. I sincerely hope her readers are really paying attention. Did Tori think through all the above facts before she posted her comeback? If so, wouldn’t she have realized that Obscure could call her out? Or did she think she would not get caught? Why was she willing to take that chance? Did she really think she had convinced everyone that I was so crazy, it wouldn’t matter what she said? Even if I had proof that directly contradicted her? Does she think that there aren’t enough visitors to my site to matter? Does she think she can spin, spin, spin her way out of this with lies upon lies?

I guess she didn’t count on Obscure letting me do this. I hope this is the last act of complete and utter dishonesty to come from Tori Gifford and all her blogs. Enough is enough.

Here’s a thought, if Tori is lying about all of this, what else is she lying about?

Even though I am simply an astrologer, I am going to make a “psychic” prediction. I predict that we will never hear from Tori Gifford again.

Just to prove how much I believe my prediction, I am going to wait two weeks. If we do not hear a believable explanation for this newest set of lies, or if we don’t hear anything, I will reveal everything else Tori has lied about once and for all. 

None of this ugliness has deterred me from my path. I am moving forward with my plans for a law. I may not be able to name it after Ayla, but it will be in her honor and the honor of those who suffered before and after her. For Caylee Anthony, who received no justice. For Kyron Horman. For Zahra Baker. For Hailey Dunn. For Haleigh Cummings. For Baby Gabriel and Baby Lisa and Baby Kate.

Many of us have gotten caught up in this drama and many of us have acted in ways we were embarrassed to have publicly revealed. Yet we are still here, on the blog that outed us. On a blog that clearly states it is nothing like what J4A/U4A was supposed to be, because we felt it was the only refuge we had. I was the first to be led down the rabbit hole. I let my passion for Ayla's cause blind me to the corruption going on under my nose. I want to go back to the beginning only this time get it right.

What I am suggesting would be a true Justice For Ayla, one that anyone and everyone will be proud to be a part of. Heck, it might even attract a DiPietro or two! It will be the blog I thought I was supporting all those months ago, that I thought I was loyal to before Tori’s lies and deceit and manipulations ruined it. I will even open up comments. It will be the blog everyone has been voicing they want: open discussion, bully-free, facts only. No ties to either family. No fear of outing, no leaked emails, full disclosure and full transparency.

I feel this is the best I can do at this time, as I continue on the path to Justice for Ayla. I hope to see you there.

A Word From KJ

I don't usually do "guest posts", but this email was sent to me and I respect every word of it. I'm sharing it with permission from the author; she has posted it elsewhere so some of you may have already seen it. Please, people, no matter what your feelings are about the author try not to make negative comments about HER. If her words must be attacked, fine.

I am going to summarize my thoughts and opinions on my participation in the case of Ayla Reynolds.

When Ayla was first reported missing from her grandmother’s home on December 17, 2011 and it subsequently was reported in the news, I was shocked.  I could not image that a child would be taken in the middle of the night, from their bed and in a home in Maine (no less).  I’ve lived in Maine most all my life (except short periods out of state) and never have I heard of this happening in Maine.

At that time, I had a page called Missing In Maine that I had previously used to help find two missing teens in the Portland area.  The page was sitting dormant (Maine isn’t exactly the missing person capital of the country, at least it seemed that way).  When I heard about Ayla being taken from her home, I made up some posters and added them to my page.   I started doing some photos that were more colorful and would, hopefully attract attention for Ayla.  I purchased bracelets and gave them to anyone who asked for one.  During my time posting pictures I started to meet more people involved in the case and people who were just curious about what happened to Ayla and where did she go!

Articles came out in the newspaper, people opened facebook pages and blogs were developed to follow and discuss the case.  People started to line up on one side of the fence or the other.   To many, it seemed like an open and shut case of the father’s family knowing what happened, or even causing what happened and Trista could not possibly be involved (after all, she was miles away!).  Others stood by the father’s family and firmly believed that they were innocent of any wrongdoing or even of knowing what happened.  At first, it was all pretty mild and I spent a lot of time reading what was being said and coming to my own conclusions.  I was quickly coming to the conclusion that the DiPietro family had to know.   How could a stranger come into that small house with three adults and three children and take a baby and walk out?  It just didn’t make sense.  I will not say it is impossible, I can only say it did not make sense to me.   So, I read more and at times I would waffle back and forth in my thoughts and opinions.   Could it have been a stranger? At that time, I could still not believe that Trista or anyone from her side of the family could have been involved.

Tori opened a blog, Justice for Ayla and Jeff had his own blog at aylareynolds . com, so I started reading those along with the few news articles when they came out.   People’s thoughts and opinions were all over the place.  During this time, I started to really believe that the father’s family knew more than they were saying, especially when word came out that some of the blood found in the home was Ayla’s blood.  It wasn’t difficult to believe they were hiding something, even the police were stating that they believed the three adults in that house that night were not telling all they knew.  Logically, I tend to believe the police.  If the father or the father’s family knew more, perhaps pushing a little would help get someone (anyone!) to spill the beans and ultimately, FIND AYLA.  Given my belief that Justin and /or family knew more about Ayla’s disappearance than they were saying, I helped make images that might push someone to talk.  Many of the images were not very kind and some were insulting to Justin and the family.  Was it right to do that?  No it wasn’t, but at the time I thought anything that would help get someone to talk was ok.  The images, of course, did not work.   Could it be that Justin and family truly do not know any more than they have said to the police?  Is that why it didn’t work?  Who knows, certainly not I.  I will apologize to Justin and his family for my part in the images, whether they are ultimately guilty or not guilty, it wasn’t fair to do, since I had absolutely no knowledge that they know anything other than what they claim. It is one of the reasons I no longer participate in making those images and won’t in the future.  After all, they may truly be innocent.

I started reading more at Just Stop the Lies blogspot and participating less and less at Tori’s and Jeff’s blog.  I questioned what I believed to be true, not only because of the writings at JSTL (the questions being asked there and the information being shared), but because of the happenings at (what now was) United for Ayla.   Though I was not participating actively in many conversations, I was reading.  I saw good solid questions being asked and ignored at United for Ayla.  Not only ignored, but those asking the questions were being crucified.   Why would anyone who believes they have the truth want to stifle any question, regardless of what is asked?  The reaction of the participants at United for Ayla to the questions baffled me.   Why didn’t they welcome the questions and just respond, if all they say is true, certainly asking questions and doubting can’t change the truth?   I started to wonder if all that was presented as fact, was truly fact at all.   If any information did not come directly from Trista’s mouth, it is hearsay.  If information did not come directly from Justin’s mouth, it is hearsay.   None of us have been given direct information and many have gambled the farm on that information.

There are many people who have not made up their minds one way or another.  Congratulations to those people who have been able to remain neutral throughout the last (almost) nine months.  I have now placed myself firmly in the neutral zone (whether anyone else sees that or not, it is where I stand).  I no longer believe half of what I was told and very little of what I have seen.  The results are that I just do not know.  I do not know if Justin and his family are involved in Ayla’s disappearance, I do not know if Trista and her family are involved and I do not know if a stranger is involved.

I still pray for Ayla, I still hope she is alive and being hidden, cared for and ultimately returned to her family.  I will still share flyers and posters for Ayla in the hopes that someone will see her somewhere. 

It is past time to look at this case from all angles and perhaps from a viewpoint of “I do not know what happened”, instead of assumptions and guesses.  Therefore, I will no longer participate in any conversation or activities that assume that any individuals are absolutely involved when I have no idea.  For those of you who do believe one side is guilty or the other side is guilty, ask yourself, do you really know? Guess Who?---THE ANSWER

Some of you guessed it right away.

Some of you thought it could be her, but had one reason or another to count her out.

I thought the things she said, and the way she said those things, would be obvious to most people.

Anyway.

I did not deceive her or pretend to be someone else to gain her trust.

She knew she was communicating with this blog; because after this post, she sent an email directly to juststopthelies @ yahoo.com.

She was actually corresponding with #2, not me. I didn't know what to say to her. She disgusts me on so many levels, so I could not even pretend to be cordial with her.

I admit that I'm wrong for promising to keep her emails confidential, and then breaking that promise. I lied. No excuses, no justifying it--BUT after seeing her latest posts on the other blog, I felt this to be necessary.

Lots of people email me things, and in 7 months, I have never released any other such emails. There is an exception to every rule; I made an exception in this case. Like I said before, judge my actions how you will. I'm prepared to accept the criticism.

I start this post off with caveats. The information contained in this post was not relayed directly to me, so you all will have to consider it second-(or third)-hand information. I have refrained from adding my 2 cents here, but I will likely do so in the comments section along with the rest of you. This post is not intended to speak for Lance (unless you see his words verbatim), nor do I seek to represent the thoughts, experiences, or feelings of any other member of the DiPietro family. I make no guarantees regarding the accuracy of this information; although I do believe it to be 100% true. Perhaps a more comprehensive post will follow at a later date...
 
What's the story about Bob Vear and Lance?

• Lance got to know Bob, because Bob was a regular at the restaurant where Lance worked. They did not work together.
• The two only started talking about 4 months before Ayla disappeared. This is not a long-term friendship as has been described by certain people.
• On at least one occasion, Bob sold his medical marijuana to one of Lance's friends. This is why Bob had reason to be at Lance's residence (it is also presumably the only time Bob was there).
• Bob never disclosed to Lance that he was a sex offender or pedophile.
• After Ayla went missing, Bob told Lance that he didn't have much time left but that he wanted to help find her. Bob had known he had cancer for years.
• Bob invited Lance over for what was going to be Bob's "last Christmas". Supposedly, Bob's cancer was going to kill him within the next few weeks.
• After leaving Bob's house, Lance spent the rest of Christmas with his own family. Keeping his emotions at bay was necessary to him; he didn't want to ruin everyone else's Christmas. 
• Bob was supposed to secure t-shirts and bracelets, but he never did. He was able to organize the vigil though.
• Bob also used the fact that his genitals had been cut off as a way to garner further sympathy.
• Around the time that the 30k reward was announced, Bob was desperately looking for funds to pay for his daughter's wedding.
• Lance was upset about the incident with Bob and NBC's Alan Cohen. Lance did not use Bob to get beer. Lance was the kitchen manager of the restaurant they were at, and he could have put an unlimited amount of beer on his own tab.

What led to the problems between Justin Linnell and Lance?

• Phoebe allowed Justin L. to move into her home when Elisha was pregnant.
• Justin L. and Elisha broke up because he was obsessive and controlling. He would not even allow her to go out with her friends, and he would constantly argue with her and pick fights out of jealousy. At the end, Justin L. threw something violently in the living room, and it hit (or almost hit?) Gabby. Lance was not present.
• When Justin L. and Elisha split up, he threatened to slit Elisha's throat, slit Phoebe's throat, burn the house down, and to kill Lance if Lance had something to say about it.
• Justin L. then began stalking Elisha. He would send her hundreds of text messages, call excessively, and follow her.
• Justin L. even had to be removed from the place where Lance worked. He had come in and was just pacing around, staring at Elisha. Justin L. showing up everywhere Elisha was became a recurring pattern.
• Justin L. would walk by the home at Violette Ave. at night; there was vandalism, and on a few occasions things would be missing and the family suspected Justin L.
• Before Ayla was abducted, Justin L. and Lance had a run in. Once again, Justin L. threatened Elisha's life. He said something to the effect of "if I see your sister before I see my daughter she's fuckin' dead." Justin L. was with approximately 15 people at the time, and he took off before Lance could address him.
• Justin Linnell and Justin DiPietro also got into an argument before Lance and Justin L.'s fight. Justin L. called Justin D. a child killer, among other things.
• When Justin D. and Lance were driving that day, Justin L. started yelling things at the vehicle. Justin L. thought he was yelling at Justin D. and did not realize that Lance was also in the car. Lance told Justin D. to pull over; Justin D. asked why, but Lance just jumped out of the car.
• A majority of the problem between the two was caused by Justin L. threatening the DiPietros. Also, around that time Elisha had contacted the police about Justin L. breaking his restraining order and contacting her. Police declined to take action.

Did Lance Move?

This is not a rumor. Lance has moved, for various reasons. The assertions that he moved as part of a witness protection program or that his whole family has moved are simply untrue. I have declined to post complete details, because doing so would lead to people being able to sleuth the person he is living with.
