Turn the Other Cheek

Billboards have gone up to aid in the search for Ayla. The billboards are not in Maine, because they are prohibited by law.

Look at the organizations listed at the bottom of this billboard. These are displayed in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, and they went up on or around February 7, 2012. There were about 9 of them around that date.

“We started working on this right away, as soon as we heard that Ayla had disappeared,” said Caron. “If she was abducted, she could be anywhere. We want to have those billboards up until the evidence strongly suggests otherwise.”

Why weren't people voicing their concerns that billboards were not helpful back then?

The fact that certain groups (TLLOM), along with the DiPietro family, had a part in getting the new billboards up somehow means that the effort is now a negative one.

The billboards are characterized as another slap in the face to Ayla. The real slap in the face to Ayla is the fact that everyone trying to help her has their motives questioned; if you are not a part of an ordained pro-Trista group, then your efforts are inherently tainted by some evil ulterior reasoning.

The billboards get her name and face out to the public. They serve the same purpose as media coverage, blogs, shares on Facebook, and vigils. To raise AWARENESS. Is there something wrong with that? NO, but there is something wrong with a person who would try to insinuate that there is.

Instead of doing things that would help, some less than intelligent people propose a petition be started to ask for the prosecution of the DiPietros and/or Courtney. How is that helpful? It's not. Law enforcement is either reliable, or they are not. If you trust everything that law enforcement has said to date, and use their statements to further your position, then why don't you trust them to conduct this investigation and make an arrest when THEY see fit?

In the last few days, I think certain people have made their intentions clear. Their focus is not on Ayla; instead it is squarely on the DiPietro family. To date, Ayla has not been found by focusing on her paternal family. What would it hurt to question other possibilities?

JUSTICE FOR AYLA does not mean using her name and face to tear down one side of her family for their efforts to bring her home. Change your name or change your game. Simple.

  1. Thank you for saying all of this. You are absolutely right. I don't understand the hatred, accusations, and downright mean things said about the DiPietros. And the scrutinization of every word that comes out of their mouths, while ignoring all of the inconsistencies of the other side. It truly shows how biased & blind people can be.

  2. Also, guilty people don't generally attempt to help the situation. They usually go into complete hiding & refuse to talk to anyone outside their home. And they usually move away & attempt to disappear off the radar. I know it's been implied that Justin has done that, but he hasn't.

  3. Wow, TLLOM have sponcered 62 new billboards in many states, that's FANTASTIC.

It has to be a pretty small group of people who think or feel that billboards being put up all over the country, is a slap in the fact to Ayla..it has to be.
I can't believe that there are many with that kind of ignorance and small, closed minds. Tell me it's not so.

"people propose a petition be started to ask for the prosecution of the DiPietros and/or Courtney".

Yeah, I think I'm going to withhold my thoughts on that.

Absolutely agree that Justice for Ayla, does not mean using her name or face to tear down one side of her family.
I know I've been saying that for months. I don't understand how anyone can justify doing that.

      S. - perhaps they believe that TLLOM is a group of people who are in on a murder coverup so deep that they are putting forth a huge effort (which they've been doing for months but we just found out about) to throw the public off their scent, and they are mocking Ayla in doing so because they all "know" she won't be found?????

    4. =EXPLAIN THIS TO ME=
Seriously, I understand how people get to the point of needing to find humor in the midst of attacks and frustration... so no offense, but I have to say really seriously that this is all such BULL. How can anyone find fault with a group successfully getting the word out in such BIG ways? I would usually blow that off as being typical of those that always have to have a problem with something. (obviously that is the truth here.) But I can't blow it off since it seems like possibly the police are just as stupid!! I hope I'm wrong. I just don't know. Please, someone tell me that Maine's police department isn't LIKE these people who keep at the group that is doing good, remaining stable, and being rational. Please tell me that, because I always had such a positive view of maine.

I read what's been happening and I just can't understand. Where is the media? Are the police paying attention to all of this? Are people who have the opportunity to blow this case wide open even PAYING ATTENTION?

People keep saying this father needs to talk. Well, he has. I don't know what else is being demanded. Full press conferences on demand? I don't get it. There is more behind the scenes in these cases than people realize and parents of missing kids are all coping in vastly different ways.

He has not gotten involved in all the bickering, the people supporting finding Ayla and not "taking sides" against him or anyone else have really not gotten involved in the bickering. All have been recipients of bashing and threats and ridicule. They seem like really decent, educated folks and it has to be said that those that are in these other groups seem like IDIOTS. They ignore facts, twist statements, make up lies, speak out of two sides of their mouths, this list goes on. Some have practically no grasp of the english language and others use their grasp of it to sound powerful while smearing the names of strangers and innocent people. So, not so intelligent after all.

Are they just all friends of Tristas? I don't get it. How is it that these people aren't seeing all the glaring inconsistencies? The things don't add up. I am scared that if this girl is out there somewhere she'll never even be located because apparently the police are letting the trail go totally cold. They will never find her now.

I know that police have no obligation to answer the public, but as a father I feel infuriated that if my kids went missing I could be put in this kind of situation seemingly at the hands of the police department themselves.

    5. Thank you anon, for speaking my thoughts so eloquently. I don't know you but you've stated what my (adult) kids and I frequently say and think. I refuse to accept that Maines police are anything like the bizarre people we have been 'hearing' from who are just out to get Justin, his family, girlfriend, friends, and anyone who believes Ayla might be alive. All that we've seen them do is keep their heads down and eyes forward and open to all possibilities while searching with everything they have for a little girl.

They generally choose not to even respond to the horrible and tasteless accusations against them by complete strangers. I think that's what's most shocking. Their insane theories and unkind, deeply disturbed descriptions of scenarios are one thing. But the fact that the people they are talking about are wholly unknown to them takes it to a new level. It's baseless but they state it as fact. Gleefully. They tear down and destroy good people who believe they can put their concern and anxiety for Aylas safety into action... it makes no sense to me. I read what these (freaks) say in the most uneducated language and think God almighty please don't let it be that THESE are the kind of people MSP relate to??

I don't participate in the conversations because I saw early on beginning with the people on that one Maine paper website that does Ayla stories that it was best not to state my thoughts. It got my blood pressure up reading it and seeing how if someone disagreed they were bullied right out. Or if by chance someone they were attacking - a stranger to them mind you - came there to defend themselves, they were antagonized and called names or accused of being involved in a cover up. I think at this point my biggest hope is that for the sake of Ayla the detectives on this case are NOTHING like the statement analysis people or those that can most easily be categorized as Dipietro haters.

More than that they are oblivious to what justice and fairness really is. They play a horrible game of bullying and threatening and then cry foul when one person tries to call them on it. I have to believe that police are quite capable of seeing the disgusting behavior and realize that there are screws loose in those heads. In contrast the other side chooses not to start attacking the individuals who are harassing them. They well could. What is being done to some of these well meaning people s is, i think, the makings of a libel case.

TTLOM and its members have done an outstanding job in keeping Aylas photo and name alive across the US and KUDOS to them for that. They take a lot of heat and bashing for one reason..supporting Justin..Most people believe for whatever reasons that he is responsible in some way..They do not deserve the backlash they recieve and I am glad they have held "united". The tide certainly is changing and more bloggers comments are leaving the WHO DUN IT..to LE and appear to be "uniting" for AYLA reardless of the outcome, though EVERYONE wants her home safe and sound..It is all about AYLA..the truth will hopefully be revealed as the investigation continues..Ayla is the ONLY one who needs us all on her side..

  5. SILENCE THE SHRILLS4/21/12, 4:52 PM

Great post. I totally agree. It is obvious that some of the more aggressive and obnoxious of the SHRILLS on Tori Gifford's crazy blog have latched on to poor little baby Ayla for their own sick agendas.

They point fingers and accuse and proclaim little Ayla DEAD, without have any basis whatsoever for being certain she is deceased. Meanwhile, she is most likely out there waiting to be reunited with BOTH of her families. These SHRILLS are victimizing this little innocent baby, and they should be ashamed of themselves. They are clearly disturbed in a big way.

How in the world can people think it's okay to attack one group of people who are CLEARLY trying to make every effort under the sun to use their energy for good? It is NOT okay to drag people's names through the mud who have done nothing wrong. It makes it so easy to thoroughly ignore, from this point forward, anyone who has been attacking and bashing us at every turn. Those people who have wanted to sound intelligent and pure of intent have really shown their asses now. They are finding negative in our getting billboards up out of our own desperation to bring attention to Ayla's plight. Couldn't possibly be hurting anyone or doing a thing wrong in that effort and yet they try to question our intent. I'm totally over them. Can't argue with crazy.

Why would TTLOM and Justin want billboards put up in other states?

Uuuummmm AYLA was kidnapped? It is entirely possible that an abductor has a means of travel over state lines. People in Maine do drive, they own vehicles, why… I do believe we have a few paved roads too!

What kind of kidnapping do they think this is?

It doesn’t matter what type anyone thinks it is. This venue covers quite a few scenarios.
The types of kidnappings I can think of that include an alive Ayla are:

1.)Custodial :Parents can and do have relatives or people they trust out of state. I wouldn’t stay in state if I kidnapped a kid, for any of the purposes listed below.
2.)Stranger Abduction/Sale of Child for Illegal Purposes (Sex/Porn/Trafficking)
3.)Stranger Abduction/Sale of Child for Adoption Purposes
4.)Stranger Abduction/Personal reasons Yeahhhhh….I wouldn’t stick around. Every cop in the state would be looking for me.
Thus…(I love saying thus makes me feel all smart.)IN MY OPINION: The rest of that blog is whooooooo…ie! Why you may ask? Well not one of her points makes sense. This blog owner, I believe in my own personal opinion, has some difficulty with jealousy issues. The owner is so upset that there are people out there getting things done and her name isn’t attached to it. TLLOM spends their time and efforts doing what needs to be done without credit where credit is due. It wasn’t a TLLOM member who announced what was being done. It was Justin. Justin wanted to thank them for doing what they are doing. He thanked AYLAS ANGELS as well. I didn’t see them rushing to the cameras spouting off what they have done. I didn’t see or hear them accusing anyone or siding with anyone or giving their opinion. They were there because they cared and wanted to pray with family members. They came to show support in finding AYLA. They came to give out information packets to the public. Lance forbid cameras in the church for a reason. This isn’t a circus to be videotaped and thrown to the media. This was a plea to God for the safe return of Miss AYLA. One doesn’t pray to God, in public, just to let others know they are “holy”. Its not for show. If that’s done, it isn’t for AYLA. Its for the gratification of letting others see how righteous and holy that person is. This is why people do what they do in public…to get approval from others for their actions. ----(LOTS TO THINK ABOUT HERE) Yup…we’re a little weird that way. Perhaps the outside world sees this as weird, but its who they are. They cant help it. Just like you cant help being you.
Personally…I am thankful for anyones efforts to find AYLA. I don’t care what they think or what their opinion is. Disagree with me, in my opinion, call me names on your blogs, have a hoot in your blog wars!! Guess what? It all gets AYLA’S name out there!!! I grin when the trolls get any of you going. Cause you are gonna fire back and txt your friends to help you. Your gf’s are gonna tell people that are not on here what a bitch this one is or that one is….whoa….more people. Just saying…
So, no matter your opinion,Thank you. Carry on! :D

  9. I really can't imagine what it would be to be the aunt of a young man whose little girl is missing. I can't imagine what it would be like to watch the nieces and nephews you've known all your life being treated like criminals. I can't imagine what it's like to see your sister trying to stand tall as she's accused of things you know she'd never do. I have a sister, a brother, and many nieces and nephews who I know and love dearly. I try to put myself in Selena's shoes and ask myself how hard it would be to see all this taking place and feeling somewhat helpless. This internet thing has made things totally out of control. Poor Ayla. All of those people could have either shut up and waited for the truth or they could have been helping. Instead they have focused on hating.

I just can't for the life of me understand how one group of people thinks that their opinion is the only possibly accurate opinion, and then looks at another group who feels otherwise and calls them idiots. Where is the logic?

I would be interested in helping/donating to Ayla's billboard project.

Anyone know of a site where we can see photos/locations of the existing billboards? If there is not one yet, I'd be happy to help set up one - maybe a flickr site? I think it would help bring awareness to the states/countries where there are no billboards yet. Thanks in advance :)

    2. I think that the pictures they have so far of the billboards are on the facebook page. at least I saw a couple come through my newsfeed. Maybe they need volunteers to go and take the pictures though, and upload them. Probably they live far from where a lot of the billboards are.

      Delete
    3. I have emailed about this and what I was told is it's a matter of them being unprepared for being ready to get photographs... They explained that at the point where they had just over 70 billboards up, many were in areas of the country that volunteers didn't know anyone in. For example, they mentioned these two scenarios : two billboards went up in SanFransico. They are still there but do not know anyone who lives there. One friend of a volunteer did go for vacation the day after it started running but they are on a major freeway and it is in a rotation with 7 other billboards. (It's a digital one.)

The friend felt like there was nowhere to stop and get a photo but furthermore, wasn't positive she was at the right spot. Seems like a no brainer until you realize how many billboards are on a stretch of highway in most places. The other one mentioned -and again it was simply thrown out in conversational email - was in Macon GA which is in a great location but their small group doesn't know anyone there. These billboards are in competition with high paying companies and while some locations are running them for a contracted year, others had only weeks or months available at the time. Some places have their markets booked solid for a year they say. So the fact that they have gotten so many up is a credit to them. And like someone said, this Little Light of Maine did it with no expectation of Kudos but certainly didn't expect to be attacked for it. With their volunteers in Ohio and New York they were able to get photos. No billboards in Maine. The DC area billboards had to wait for availability but there will be photos of those once they are up. People just don't care to try to view things from a rational perspective when they accuse these people of being fraudulent. Or...more likely it's a simple case of humans accusing others of what they can imagine themselves doing. I'm thrilled to know good people can work that hard in the face of such u fair scrutiny.
