What Justin says is in blue. Information that backs it up in the medical report is in red.
"I was carrying her," he recalled during a Thursday interview with the Morning Sentinel. "Usually I let her walk, but it was raining out that night and it was dark." Phoebe says she was in the living room with Elisha, and they heard a big thump. Phoebe went to the kitchen, and Ayla was scared, so she picked her up. Phoebe was worried about Justin's wrist, which was previously broken into 39 pieces. Justin says things seemed normal after, but that Ayla was fussy here and there.
"This is a 19 month old girl who was being carried by her father last night, and he tripped and fell in the dark, and the grandmother found them both on the floor." The report goes on to say that Justin was recovering from a fracture that he was trying to protect, and that although Ayla was crying, she did not appear to be seriously injured.
As Justin got ready to head to class the next day, Phoebe called him back in and showed him Ayla's arm, which was now swollen. Justin considered skipping class, but decided against it because Ayla was not crying.
They did not bring her in until this morning, and they brought her in today because her left arm was severely swollen.
The physical examination shows that the left arm is severely swollen. There is ecchymosis (a bruise) developing in the antecubital (in front of the elbow) area of the left arm.At some point during the day, Phoebe noticed just how swollen Ayla's arm was after she looked under the toddler' sleeve. Justin left class early, and they went to the emergency room. The ER staff reportedly thought Ayla had a deep tissue bruise, and Justin implored them to do an x-ray.
Carol Bengle Gilbert says that the medical reports reflect an examination in which Ayla's wrist and hand were described as normal on inspection, nontender, with a normal range of motion. Her wrist and hand are described as normal on inspection, nontender, and with a normal range of motion; while Justin DiPietro is quoted in the Morning Sentinel as saying Ayla's hand was swollen, the medical report shows that he brought her in due to swelling of her left ARM. There is no mention of Ayla's wrist, only Justin's. Even if he said her hand was swollen, he reported that the fracture was in her forearm. The elbow is not the upper area of the arm, it's the exact midpoint. Is Carol Bengle Gilbert a doctor?
The treatment records show 10:50 a.m. Is that inconsistent with Justin saying he left class early and returned home to take Ayla to the E.R.? No, but for some reason Carol Bengle Gilbert presents it that way.
Carol Bengle Gilbert is still stuck on the fact that Justin's class officially ended on October 27. She fails to account for the fact that the class requires driving time, absences have to be made up, and the course required driving time before it could be completed. Does she know enough to say when Justin's course "officially" ended. No, but she has no problem stating repeatedly, as fact, that it ended on October 27.
Why is Carol Bengle Gilbert picking apart the most inane details to prove abuse? When Trista admitted to having her timeline wrong, Carol did not correct her previous assertions that the injury could have occurred on or around October 17. Why is it that Trista is allowed a gross mistake, which caused speculation for months, but Justin using the word hand or forearm instead of arm and elbow means he is a child abuser?
There is a reason why Carol Bengle Gilbert writes for Yahoo News as a contributor. This is not real journalism, and anything she writes has to be taken with not just a grain, but a box, of salt. Jeffrey thinks that Carol Bengle Gilbert is a journalist, so he is currently using her to get the word out. Her articles are not mainstream media, and one has to wonder why local media outlets have not published anything Jeffrey has released to her. Those outlets would love to have the "scoop" on Ayla, because her story draws a large amount of public interest---and money. Why, oh why, is Jeffrey not being published by them? Probably because they will not put his desired slant or spin on the facts that they will report. That sort of integrity seems to have escaped Carol Bengle Gilbert.
Get a real job, Carol Bengle Gilbert. If you have one, stick with it. You're not cut out for this, you seem to be unaware of any journalistic standards.
BRAVO!! Excellent post JSTL!
ReplyDeleteCarol Bengle Gilbert's articles are so slanted and dishonest. She makes a mockery out of her pitiful attempt at being a journalist. Yes indeed Carol Bengle Gilbert needs to understand that a journalist must present BOTH sides of a news story in as neutral a manner as possible in order to be taken seriously.
Carol Bengle Gilbert writes her articles like a paid PR person for Jeff Hanson, and are not even worth reading if you are looking for real facts.
Thanks. :)
DeleteRobin,
DeleteI absolutely concur with your comment
I thought CBG was a blogger, whose blogs somehow attained the status of "Yahoo contributor."
ReplyDeleteCBG now has the ethos of father jeff, ya know that big media mogul fella....hahaha
DeleteCBG is a Yahoo blogger, just as you are a google blogger. Anyone can be a yahoo contributor just as anyone can be a google blogger. If a Yahoo contributor develops a following, that contributor will often be linked at the Yahoo homepage on their news slideshow. CBG has blogged about other crimes which have made the national news. Public interest in this case is high, and real news is scare. I've never seen another case where main stream media quoted blogs, and bloggers themselves become newsworthy as Angela Harry has. Blogs, social media and shows like Nancy Grace have changed the way people get their information. Journalistic standards are fading fast as traditional news outlets compete with the guerrilla journalism of the internet. I do believe charges will be brought in this case. I think LE is hoping warm weather will lead to a recovery. I don't think LE was putting divers in icy waters because they believe an abduction occurred. Police know something happened in the DiPietro household. They just don't know who did what as the guilty parties are holding firm to their saw nothing, heard nothing story. Multiple indictments are coming, but not until LE has completed their investigation.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the CBG explanation, Eve.
DeleteStill holding out hope for Ayla's safe return.
Eve, I disagree. LE needs to broaden its investigation. Ayla is with someone connected with the maternal family, most likely.
DeleteWell actually the divers also used the time as a chance to tape a show for tv. So it held a multi purpose for them.
Delete@Just throwing it out there.
DeleteEXACTLY!

FYI Yahoo contributors are not bloggers. They are freelance writers paid for their work. You can see their credentials by clicking on their names.
ReplyDeletehttps://contributor.yahoo.com/signup/ Some do get paid, but anyone can sign up and start writing.
DeleteEve, anyone can sign up but not everyone who submits content will get published. The standards for getting published on Yahoo! News through the contributor network are higher than the standards for signing up to become a contributor or even publishing on the Voices platform. Regular contributors published on Yahoo! News are paid.
DeleteYou are amazing. You just act like you are so super duper familiar with everything that is going on. It's a hoot.
ReplyDeleteWhat amuses me is the people who constantly post as if they know exactly what happened to Ayla like they witnessed the very acts they accuse any combination of the three adults in that house of doing. Yet, if you even TRY to throw another possibility into the mix, you are ridiculed & accused of being one of Justin's family members or closest friends.
ReplyDeleteSo, it's only acceptable to offer the scenario of a sweet toddler dead somewhere at the hands of her father? Instead of thinking she's alive, possibly with her mother who has contradicted herself & changed her timeline umpteen times?....and yet, still...ALIVE.
But no...let's only accept that a sweet little girl is dead, rotting somewhere, and her father is a heartless murderer. I can see where that scenario is way more preferred & accepted as fact.
Some of you people really need to stop watching CSI. It's desensitized you in ways that I find quite sad.
Here's my scenario. Feel free to attack & berate. I couldn't care less if I tried.
Trista drove up to Waterville, knowing darn well no court would give her primary custody of Ayla. She could see that Justin had a stable life for her, even if it wasn't ideal, as all of you perfect people assert. (Note: It's not abduction if a custodial parent takes their own child, so even the cops may be on to this thought...they've said it wasn't an abduction.)
After all, the state never took Ayla from her; they gave Trista an ultimatum. If they took her, they would've placed Ayla in her father's care or a foster home, and not left her & baby Ray in the home of her sister.
So, there was no crime in her taking Ayla. My scenario is that she did it out of fear, wanting her little girl with her for Christmas, whatever... What she didn't know or think through, was that it would grab national attention.
Rather than realize she wouldn't be in trouble legal-wise for taking Ayla or maybe enjoying her newfound fame & attention, she went a different way & now she can't very well go back....and yes, now she'll be in trouble legally. And that sucks. It explains her wanting everyone to think Ayla's dead, her wanting to move away & start over, her inconsistent stories, etc.
But hey, at least in my scenario, she's alive, with her mother, her father's not a cold-hearted killer, and I'm not going to feel like an absolute jerk if I'm wrong. Have some hope, people.
